So my boys don't believe in the Easter bunny (it's been a long while since that) :)

But as a mom I still make them an Easter basket each year (and will probably do for many more years). Plus they still like to go hunting for eggs (I usually buy the plastic ones and fill with candy) But it's getting harder now that they're older. I would like to keep the cost down and don't want to fill it with a bunch of junk, or a bunch of video games, movies, etc. And I don't want it filled with all candy. Tough huh?

I plan on putting some money in a card (to use for spending money our Disney Cruise in April) and I usually get them each a new bathing suit and beach towel for their basket.

What are some other ideas that would be great for boys this age. Like I said, I don't plan on putting any video games or movies in the basket since they got alot of those for Christmas.

Thanks!!!

Baseball cards
Special edition PO Stamps
Small Magic tricks
Gift cards

WHAT?! NO EASTER BUNNY?! ;)

Do they like a certain sport or sports team? Getting something small but sports-related might work.

I also second the idea of giftcards.

Yep they like baseball. I have a Yankee fan and a Red Sox fan. Now that you mentioned that, I remember now that I did in fact pick up each a new pack of pencils (with their fave baseball team on it) from ACMoore the other day. Forgot about those.

Gift cards are a good one.

Anymore?

Book
i-Tunes gift card
Those silly trick novelties (snake in a can, hand zapper, fake puke, etc).
Funny or cool boxers
Jones Soda
Card game
New earphones
Quarters for the arcade
Joke book
Sunscreen (my son likes the sport SPF 15 on a carabiner0
New watch

a Klutz book (the one with a yo-yo and telling how to do tricks is a big hit with all the boys in our neighborhood of that age range)

model kit

pocket kite

silly string (if you're braver than I am:rotfl2: )

My 12 DD hangs out with the 12 yo boys so a bunch of us mom's decided we'll get inexpensive gift cards to the pizza place they like, starbucks, bowling coupons and put them in theior baskets so they can hangout after school. There's about 16 of them altogether. iTunes gift cards are good too.

my son will be 11 saturday, and he's not a sweet eater so every easter i need to find stuff for his basket-here's some ideas i'm using:

a whoopie cushion (at the age where he loves gross stuff:rolleyes: )
trading cards (he's big on pokemon and yugiho)
small lego set (run about $4.99 and have the parts to make one small item)

stuff like that. for his eggs (he likes to hunt as well) i'm going to grab some chuck e cheese tokens as well as some of the junkie stuff he tends to want to get out of vending machines (mini superballs and such).

if you are going on the disney cruise you might consider using something other than a traditional easter basket for the 'e.b.' to leave-a tote bag or small carry on that can be used on the plane would be nice. then get small items they might need-sunglasses (and those straps to keep them in place during more active stuff), the small sunscreen that has a clip on it to attach to a belt loop or on a tote bag, a hat (maybe from their fav team), a pair of water shoes or flip flops, maybe make up some coupons for stuff you can get them on-board ("this is good for a $10 gaming credit at the ship arcade"). you could do double duty by using the money you plan on giving them in the basket in the eggs for the hunt-they have those new gold colored dollar coins at the bank that would fit in an egg, or, grab a few $2 bills (my kids get a huge kick out of those) and stuff them in a few eggs.

btw-love the idea of the beach towel, i DETEST easter 'grass' and since the kids were little they've never had it in their baskets and always got a new beach towel or pillow case (whatever their current fav. cartoon character is) instead.

I too have always hated the Easter "grass" Never used it. I remember as a kid seeing the grass all over the place for like weeks. Even after you think you've cleaned it all up.....there's another piece. ARRGGHH!!!

But thanks for the ideas on using stuff that they would use on the cruise. Good ideas!!!!

Not to highjack your thread but UGHHHHH is it almost easter already? I am still traumetized from Christmas.:lmao:

Oh Easter grass is the WORST!!:headache: I hate that stuff. Thanks for the idea of the beach towel.
In the past, I've just used tissue paper.

OP, what about some movie coupons or GC's?
Book by his favorite author
Teen cologne
new socks

I've been thinking about this, too. My kids are 10 yo, 11 later this year.

I know you said you don't want movies but we love them.

The idea hit me on The Great Movie Ride to make them baskets that contained some of the movies from there that they've never seen before, ie a GMR theme. ;) I figured I'd also add some candy, licorice, popcorn, etc, and it would be fairly simple, but fun. Now the problem is finding the movies - some of the old ones are hard to come by. :confused3

My kids still get baskets and they are going to be 19 & 20 this year. The last few years I started giving them a gc tucked in their basket. I love giving my kids little things on special occasions, on Valentines I leave a small chocolate heart and a card on their pillow before I leave for the day.
