National car reservations--what is cancellation policy??

I made two reservations for EA at National for next June--one at MCO and one at Tampa--because we don't know where we'll be flying in to at this point. Will I get charged for both rentals if I fail to cancel one? As an Emerald Club member, they do have our credit card info on file which is why I'm concerned.

One more question, when I made the Tampa reservation I failed to request confirmation by email so I don't have the reservation number. How would I cancel that reservation? I did try to cancel it on the website when I realized I didn't have a number, but I couldn't pull up the info without the number. Should I call National?

BTW, I found it very interesting that I'm not going to WDW til next June yet I was able to use the coupon code from my DC packet that clearly says expires in September '01. Also, Tampa is cheaper for a fullsize by about $15 for a weekly rental.

Thanks for any info. Carla

I believe there is a $50 no show fee. The contract code usually always work, the coupon is the one where they enforce the expiration. If you call the EC hotline, they can cancel it for you and/or give you your confirmation number. I would also ask for a printout since you didn't receive an email or print the browser version.

No-show National Car Rental may charge a fee for vehicles that are reserved but not rented, if the reservation is not canceled within 24 hours of anticipated arrival. No-show fees will be billed to the credit card given at the time of reservation

You need to cancel at least 24 hours before scheduled pick-up time to avoid a no show fee of $50. So you have plenty of time. Also note that National and other car rental companies have a rule that retains to them the right to cancel, without prior notification to you, multiple reservations if they believe you are making them for the same trip, i.e. the right to cancel both of your reservations. They seldom exercise that right and in your case are likely treating your ressies as separate trips since there are different locations, but you should at least be aware of it.

I have not been charged the fee, but, of course, I am courteous and cancel within the alloted time frames. I would assume anyone changing their plans would have time to cancel within the time frame specified.

The DC contract code and one-day free coupon have now been extended to Dec. 31, 2001. Coupon can be printed out at the DC web site in the usual way. (It's interesting to note that the old program announcement which expires Sept. 30 is also still on the web site so a quick search on car rental now returns 4 hits.) Code numbers are the same. The National reservations computer has been accepting both codes for rentals after 12/31/2001; I have a booking for 1/2-1/9/2002 using these codes. I'm assuming that the offers will be extended again as we near the expiration date.

I've made my ressies, using EA, DC contract and coupon card, but some postings refer to printing off a coupon. Will I need something special to present?

Also, what kinds of full size cars has everyone been getting? What are my chances of getting an even bigger, or van for the full size I already have reserved?

I've been told by the National agent that I do need to present a coupon from the DC. I went to the DC website and was able to print one there that shows the expiration date of 12/31/01.

Sometimes they want it as well as your DC card, other times they don't. Since it is in fact a coupon, bring it just in case.
