Well maybe "addicted" is kind of a strong word, but they're actually my kid's favorite snack. It's kind of weird as we've been to buffets and my kid sees them and just grabs a couple of bags just to snack on. There's one local restaurant where we've been, and my kid just goes up to where they have the flatware and one cubby of them and asks around if it's OK to take one bag (or seconds) even without any soup. They've never said no. And those are my kid's absolute favorite - Westminster Bakers made in Vermont. We've tried other brands (Nabisco, house brands, etc) and they all taste like small saltines. I thought of buying a case on Amazon where the price isn't bad at 50 (25 oz total) for less than $8, but found 9 oz bags at one specific Dollar Tree in a town we were visiting. We even made a stop on the way home just to buy several bags but will probably check local stores.

So anyone else's kids have favorite foods that seem kind of unusual? I know the usual sugary stuff is common, but this seems different than liking candy or ice cream, which my kid of course loves too.

I just grabbed a bag of these for my daughter in law for the hurricane. All the saltines were sold out and she is in the early stages of pregnancy and saltines is one of the few things she can tolerate at this point. I am hoping these crackers will get her by.

My daughter used to have an addiction to croutons. I used to put them in her lunch with turkey and cheese. I told myself they were the same as toast. She's expanded her palate.

Be safe then. My only experience with storm preparation while on a Florida vacation turned out to be a dud. My biggest worry was that a light pole might land on my rental car. However, an employee at Publix recommended lots of salty comfort foods and breakfast cereals. I also remember Parmalat-brand shelf-stable milk. I had Pringles, Doritos, Apple Jacks, Dr Pepper, and beer.

As for the crackers, the thing about Westminster Bakers is that they're considerably less salty and the ingredient list is only simple ingredients. They're this one:

A coworker kept me in my addiction of Oyster crackers for years. He'd buy boxes of them from Kroger which wasn't near where I lived. Don't eat them much anymore since I retired.

DS13 has an addiction to popcorn...we're thinking about getting him professional help. :teeth:

All of my kids go through those low fat cheese sticks like candy

My personal addiction...as I've posted before, I'm very much into health/nutrition. Before I go to bed every night, I have a couple of those sugar free (15 calorie) ice pops. Even in the middle of winter. Then brush my teeth immediately after.

Omg... I buy whole boxes of the sugar free tropical ones just for the pineapple flavor! It's the only way I can find that flavor.

DD's (17) addiction is well known, her friends give her big bags for Christmas! Her parrot loves them too so they will sit at the kitchen table and snack together!

I need to become your DD's friend. ;)

Those are my favorites, too! The Trader Joe's house brand of oyster crackers taste almost identical to the OTC/Old Cape Cod/Westminster ones. It wouldn't surprise me if they made them and packaged them for TJ's. And.. at $1.99/box, they're a great deal! The other place you can sometimes find them at a discount is Christmas Tree Store.

This one? They say they're made by a New England company, so that sounds just about right.

However, the ones I got were from Dollar Tree, and the price is of course self explanatory.

I guess if I run out, TJ's should be fine. I looked on the Westminster Bakers website, and the only names that seem familiar are Big Lots and Raley's. I think Raley's will probably be selling them priced similar to Nabisco.

I adore oyster crackers. I have a tiny little spoon that I use to top each cracker with a dollop of horseradish. Wash them down with Bloody Marys or Margaritas...and I'm in heaven!

I think I'm going to visit the Klayfish house and start passing out pepsi and butterfingers for the little ones.

In my search for these things online, I found that there are larger ones handmade in New England. Maybe the size of a quarter/half dollar and often offered as a snack freshly baked.

Need to be careful of anything sugar free though. Those apparently aren't, but I remember as a kid thinking I could get away with eating sugar free candy because it wouldn't cause tooth decay. That's how I found out what "laxative effect" meant.

:thumbsup2

You'd get kicked to the curb if you tried that one...none of the kids are really big chocolate bar eaters (they like them, but not really something they "crave"), and we drink few sodas, but we're a Coke only family. Pepsi is :crazy2:
