Mary Kate Olson seeks immunity regarding Heath Ledger death

I'm thinking she is probably a huge druggie herself, and doesn't want to be in trouble for divulging that information. I don't know, I may be off base but that is the only reason I can think of.

by asking for immunity she is casting suspicion on herself of something. if subpeoned by a grand jury she can just keep pleading the 5th and not answer a single question. by giving her immunity, maybe they will get the truth if she knows something.

I think it's possibly because of what the article said:
"The masseuse discovered Ledger's body on Jan. 22. Police say she spent nine minutes making three calls to Olsen before dialing 911 for help, then called the actress a fourth time after paramedics arrived. At some point during the flurry of frantic calls, Olsen, who was in California, summoned her personal security guards to the apartment to help, police said."

I think she is afraid of being charged somehow in his death because she talked to the masseuse 3 times before 911 was called and because she involved her personal security guards.

She knows that whatever info she has means she can be charged for something,so that's why she is asking for immunity,IMO.

I don't know if she is a drug user or abuser, but she certainly knew he was. Everyone close to him knew he had problems.

You can look at that woman and tell she's a walking drug store. She is clearly thinking of her own demons

Maybe she's afraid of wrongful death or something, although I think that is a civil suit and not a crime she can be charged with. Maybe she supplied him with some of the drugs (whether legal or otherwise)? That (asking for immunity) is just strange.

You only ask for immunity if you know that what you tell the police/prosecutors, is going to put you up "craps creek" without a paddle. I'll bet the farm that she has talked to a high priced, powerful attorney who has advised her on what strategy to take. She probably has one on retainer as we speak.

The Olsen twins are not only beyond bizarre, the tabloids having been talking about their supposed drug use and abuse for quite sometime. What's the old saying... Where there's smoke, there's probably a fire.:rolleyes1

John Belushi who died of a drug overdose himself, had many of a Hollywood celebrity friend who partied hard with him. This is nothing new.

While it may be legally smart, I think it's beyond disgusting that she apparently hasn't told his surviving family-members what she knows.

Abuse of drugs and alcohol has been ruining lives and careers in Hollywood since the silent era. Fatty Arbuckle and Virginia Rapp come to mind...

agnes!

OMG look at her. She looks 20 years older than her true age. :sad1:

I agree with you and I wasn't in anyway condoning the actions of either one of those very strange Olsen twins. I always been of the mindset that if you have nothing to hide or have done nothing wrong, why ask for immunity? I understand and agree with wanting the legal protection of having a lawyer present during police questioning. But to be asking for immunity before any questions can be asked, raises some red flags to me. I find her actions disgusting as well. Those innocent days of being cute little girls on Full House are long gone.

As for my comparison to John Belushi, I know drug and alcohol abuse have a long history with Hollywood stars. What I was referring and didn't write it the way I intended, was how Belushi died in a similar fashion to Ledger. Belushi had quite a few high profile celebrity friends that partied hard with him and helped contribute to his eventual death. In fact Robin Williams and Robert Deniro were in same hotel bungalow room as Belushi and had done drugs with him previously before he died. Robin Williams was even taken into custody and questioned by police and shown photos of the Belushi crime scene. Both of them never talk about this publicly and you can read about in books about John Belushi and his life.

It always amazes me how the newer celebrities never seem to remember/recall the history of their industry and what has happened to the celebrities who went before them. It's like they think it can't happen to them and what they are doing is something new and never been done before.

Forget the fact that both Olsen twins have probably dabbled in drugs and booze. If I were personally worth $700 million and the head of a billion dollar entertainment empire and the cops called to ask me a few questions about a friends death, even if I spent every moment of my free time healing the lame and working in soup kitchens, I'd lawyer up faster than you can say "Uncle Jesse". Asking for immunity's not an admission of doing anything wrong, just a smart business move.

First of all, Heath did not die of a DRUG overdose.

Everything that was found in his apartment was prescribed from his Dr.'s

There was no illegal substance found AT ALL, it was accidental.

He was sick, had pnemunia and took a 12 hour flight and was trying to sleep and could not. So he mixed medicine that he should not have.

The Olsen should be worried b/c she should have told the maid to hang up and call 911. Obviously she did not so THAT is why the Olsen is asking for immunity.

This poor guy, leave him alone, let him rest in peace.

Everyone was jumping to conclusions that he had all of these illegal drugs in his apartment, which he didn't.

It's really starting to annoy me now that they won't leave him alone and worry about much more pressing issues in our country!

Yes he did die of a DRUG overdose. Yes, the drugs were legally prescribed (not illegal) and yes, it was very likely an accident. It was still a DRUG overdose. Prescription drug abuse is a huge problem.

Heath DID die of a DRUG overdose.

I do agree that Olsen probably lawyered up because she was on the phone for 9 minutes & her first bit of advice was not to call 911.

I was always surprised that Carolyn Bessette Kennedy's family could file a Wrongful Death lawsuit against John F. Kennedy, Jr.'s estate and win, not only for her death but also the sister. It's not like JFK, Jr. did it on purpose. He miscalculated. He died too. :confused3

Perhaps there is a ruling in Wrongful Death suits, where she could be made liable for the "advice" she gave during those 9 minutes and even sending her security guard over. For all we know, she could have been stupid enough to actually tell the masseuse to wait and NOT call 911  until she could get her guard over there (to clear out any evidence of illegal drugs, first.) She might have thought it was a simple overdose. They'll pump out his stomach & be done. But she didn't want Ledger facing jail time if he had illegal drugs scattered around the apartment.

Especially as celebrities approach 27 and 28. Those seem to be unhappy ages for celebrities.

I actually agree with that.

First of all, Heath did not die of a DRUG overdose.

The things he took certainly were drugs, and he certainly did overdose on them.

I didn't know that there was a lawsuit, but I've heard repeatedly that he flew in conditions he shouldn't have flown in. That he was irresponsible, and his bad decisions caused their deaths.

Just a word on the phrase "drug overdose". I think most people consider that phrase to mean taking too much of one drug. Heath did not take too much of any one drug, rather it was the combination that killed him.
