Magic vs Wish

Hello!
My wife and I need advice. We currently have our first ever Disney cruise booked for this August on the Magic. It’s stopping at lookout point and castaway cay. Lately there have been small issues on the Magic with leaks etc. so we are considering changing our sailing to the wish. This itinerary would include Nassau and castaway. This wish would also be a tad cheaper but not enough to make a big difference.
So the question is: do we keep the magic for 2 Disney islands with an older ship or take the wish while giving up lookout point. Any opinions are appreciated. Thanks

I would personally go to Lookout on the Magic. That is the softest (and slightly pink) sand I’ve ever felt. And I hate the Wish’s adult areas. But I’m not up to date on the Magic’s current issues and haven’t been on it in about 6 years.

2 adults. Same days, only differences are magic and wish and Nassau vs lookout. Yes first Disney cruise.
Adults only I would stick with the Magic. It has much better adult areas IMO. I would avoid any rooms on Deck 6 if possible as those seem to have the most issues (and maybe also on Deck 5 in case the room above you has issues).

Is the Dream/Fantasy not an option? IMO those are the best class of ships right now
The Fantasy is in Europe this summer that’s why Magic is doing sailings from PC during summer. Dream is out of Ft Lauderdale so you have to switch your departure port but also have DVC cruise first week of August.

Haven’t been on the Magic, but have been on the Wish and to Lookout. I liked 2 of 3 rotational dining rooms on Wish and the pool deck food is amazing. I didn’t like the adult pool area but if you don’t need the pool there plenty of loungers in adult area and you can go up to deck 14 in the front- it’s not adult only but pretty quiet with lots of free loungers normally. The Chip and Dale pool is up there but has limited hours. Nassau is a stay on ship port for me. Lookout is nice beach (Atlantic Ocean) with waves that you normally don’t get at Castaway. That pier to ship is long and the vegetation isn’t as developed as Castaway. Magic will have less people that Wish.

If you have Disney +, there is a documentary on how they built the Wish and shows what’s on the ship. So you can watch it and see what it has.

I don’t think you can go wrong with either ship, but I would do the magic to do the extra island. We were on the magic one month ago and did not have any issues. We have not been on the wish however, so I cannot say which is the better ship.

Actually I just went and read the sewage thread and maybe I would go with the wish. At a minimum, I think you want to be sure you are not in the impacted areas on the magic. We have another upcoming cruise on the Magic and I am going to look at our other options right now.

There is not anything else available for us the week we are going that isn’t priced significantly higher than the magic cruise on which we are booked. I’m not sure what we should do either. It looks like the magic had another major incident two days ago. We definitely do not want to deal with that on a cruise.

Two completley different ships.

When I did the my first trip on the Wish a few years ago, I met folks who were on their first DCL and were planning the next one on the Magic. I told them do not expect this!!!

I am about to sail on my 11th cruise this fall. Now its not 50 like some. I have sailed on the Magic, Dream and Wish. So, this is from my experence. Adult not cruising with kids anymore.

I love the Magic, but the Wish is a different animal. It's huge and goregous. The whole ship sparkles.

I love the adult area on the Wish, no kids and families walking thru. It's secluded and that pool off the back of ship is heaven.

I haven't been to Lookout yet, but it looks way different than CC. LP water looks gorgeous. CC is walkable, shady and well established. It is heavenly too.

Good luck with your decision, you will love the Magic. And you can book the Wish next.

But, if you do the Wish first, expect a different experence if you go Magic or Wonder later.

Happy sailing! 🚢 🚢 🚢 🚢 :earsgirl:

I've been back and forth on similar cruises for August and ultimately decided on the Magic.

Why?

1 - In my case the Magic is 5-nights and the Wish is 4-nights. Longer always wins for me.
2 - Lookout on the Magic. Yes, the 5th night means I'm subjected to Nassau, but that's a ship day for me anyway, so no biggie.
3 - I understand that mechanical/plumbing/sewage things can happen on ANY ship no matter how old or new. The age of a ship doesn't really factor into my plan. (well, other than my number 7 reason)
4 - I love that the adult bars are in ONE area on the Magic. Not spread all over and open to any family walking by like on the Wish.
5 - I'm a fan of the atriums on the Magic Class and Dream Class. Not a fan of them being shut off with a stage on the Triton Class.
6 - I will actually go to all the evening production shows on the Magic. I don't like either Aladdin or The Little Mermaid, so I'd be skipping 2 of the 3 shows on the Wish.
7 - While no announcements have been made - and there are older ships sailing - it is more likely than not that the Magic and Wonder's days are numbered. I'd rather enjoy them before my choice is designed-by-someone-who'd-never-been-on-a-cruise Triton class or change cruise lines.

I would 100% stick with the Magic (and I was just on the Magic cruise with the water leaking in the atrium!)

We had a fantastic cruise on the Magic. Service was excellent. The food was very good. The entertainment was top notch.

And no way on earth would I trade Lookout Cay for Nassau!! Lookout Cay was amazing. I liked it more than even Castaway Cay!! And Nassau is Nassau. Easily my least favorite cruise stop in the entire Caribbean.

I would stay with the Magic due to the itinerary, and the lacking adult areas on the Wish. We recently did both islands on the Fantasy, and will be doing the same itinerary again on the Magic in August.
