We're thinking of taking a ride up to VT to visit the Vermont Country store (we've been before---the one in Rockingham?) probably in either Oct or Nov. Either just a day trip or an overnight stay. Just curious if there other must sees or things to do up in that area. Don't mind a little bit a drive but like to stay fairly local.

And as for the fall foliage, is it still active in Oct or pretty much done?

Foliage depends on a lot of things, where in the state, and what the Summer was like, I found this on their tourism site.

Typically, the fullest color can be found from late-September in the north, through mid-October in the south. Many experienced foliage viewers actually consider late October to be the most beautiful time in Vermont.

We live in Central Vermont and peak foliage typically happens around Columbus Day weekend which will be very beautiful but very busy. An hour west from Rockingham will take you to Manchester, VT and an hour north will take you near Woodstock and Quechee, VT which are both really nice places to enjoy fall in Vermont.

Ok thanks. Any recommenations for either Manchester or Woodstock? I know we did a balloon festival a few years back in Quechee.

How adventurous are you planning to be? Near Manchester we like to go here:

There are a lot of nice restaurants and upscale outlets in town.

And Stratton Mountain is there with lots of fun things to do and see:

In Quechee you can see the gorge and hike down a fairly easy trail to the bottom.

There is a nice little covered bridge near Simon Pearce where you can watch the glassblowers work (The area near Simon Pearce was recently flooded, and I believe the glass blowing operation has reopened, but I would call to make sure).

And there is a fun antique mall in Quechee.

Woodstock is a quintessential Vermont town with a really cute downtown full of stores and restaurants.

Mt. Tom is a fun, easy hike with a nice view and Billings Farm is a fun place for kids.

King Arthur Baking Company. They have a retail store and offer classes.
