Does anyone remember the 1/2 of a lemon with a Lemon stick candy sticking out of it? I want to make them for my daughters birthday party (we are having a 4th of July theme) and wanted to do "summer treats". I remember these from fairs and carnivals from when I was little. Any way...My question is, I found the "old fashioned" penny lemon sticks online and I am thinking this is what I need, but after searching online, some people wrote about using a stick with a hole through it, like a straw. I am sure it is the regular old stick candy, right? Please let me know if you have had one! The party is in 1 week! Also if you have any other neat ideas let me know. I need to order these sticks, but I need someone else to agree with me! Dissers know everything, so I know someone will know the answer to this!!!!! I did also post this on the general board, but thought it might get more answers over here.

I remember those kind of candy sticks that were sort of pure sugar. We used to get them at Stuckey's (restaurants/shops along the highways). When you sucked on them they sort of started disolving and got kind of porous. (don't remember where you're from bu I remember eating at Stuckey's all the way from Oklahoma to New York one summer.

I hate to say it, but I don't think the "regular" penny lemon sticks are what you want. BabyLisa's right - the ones you want become somewhat porous & most "regular" ones won't do that, even if they're called 'old-fashioned'. I remember the last time I had one at our school fair in the mid-60's. A bunch of us "went back" during junior high & one of the things we really wanted was a lemon stick. The sticks were solid & you couldn't begin to suck the juice through them. :( Sadly, I don't know where to get the "right" kind.

Everything I've found seems to indicate these were made with peppermint sticks, not lemon sticks. I've never heard of them before, but this site seems to have a history to the lemon sticks. I hope it helps.

If you happen to think that the peppermint stick is right, Cracker Barrel sells them. They are called Bob's Old Fashioned peppermint sticks.

Hi! Yes! This is what I am talking about. Although, we always had them with lemon sticks. I think the pepermint is a strange combo. But from that article, it seams like the regular sticks just might work!!!!! Thanks for your help.

Every year we go to the Devon horse just to get a lemon stick. I totally remember them from my youth :rolleyes1 . I am 98% sure that just use the regular candy sticks. The sucking of the lemon juice (which is acidic) eats through the candy (which is sugar) and essentially makes lemonade in your mouth (with your siliva). Like you really wanted a Chemistry lesson. Sorry. You now, of course, made me want one... Sigh... Hope you have a great party!
