Now that my boss FINALLY approved my time off and HR got their screw up on my insurance straightened out , I'm confirmed for having a LEEP cone biopsy done on my cervix this Friday.

I've had medical procedures/surgery before so I'm not to worried about it, I was just wondering if anyone else has had one, what kind of pain or discomfort to expect. I didn't think to ask my doc when I spoke to her last. I have a high pain tolerance, but I'd feel better if I knew what I was in for.

Thanks!

Had one soooo many years ago. I was told only it would be a cone biopsy for a suspicous area. It was cramping for the procedure, I did not like it at the time but it may have only been only 60-90 seconds. After that I wore a pad. Not sure how long.

My cervix had not healed after a child birth and it was not smooth, there was errosion or something. So the biopsy took care of the suspicous area and it healed nice and smooth.

By Monday you will be AOK.
I did not even take tylenol after it.
Good luck,
dianne

I had one done about 6 years ago.
I was asleep during the procedure which was done at the outpatient surgical office and when I woke I had a pad on.
I had some minor bleeding and cramping but nothing that wasn't resolved with tylenol. I was up on my feet the next day without any problems.
I did sleep most of the day once I was sent home but that was from the residue of the anesthesia.

I had one done in my early 20's. I was awake for the procedure and it wasn't anything more painful than cramps. I did have some serious bleeding issues. I actually passed out from the blood loss and had to be put on bed rest for a few days. Of course, I had the procedure done then went to work the night shift followed by an open shift the next day. I just did too much. The doctor never should have let me go to work right after. Drove from the doctors to work. I was late. I was young and dumb. Just take it easy for a day or so and you should be fine. I don't remember any pain afterwards. I know she said to take Motrin for any pain I might have. No script for anything stronger though.

If you need additional support or have any more questions you might 'Jo's Trust' website and forum very useful. Just google the name, it is a UK based forum but I have found the people there very kind and helpful.
Another plus is that there is a volunteer medical team that will answer questions via email if you need help making ongoing decisions.
Good Luck, hope it all goes well.

I've had 3!! 2 I was awake for the most recent I was not. The one's I was awake for were uncomfortable, but not excruitiating or anything. For all 3 there was very minimal pain/discomfort afterwards. I think it was maybe a 0.5 on the scale of 1-10. There was some discharge for a few day's-- I had internal stitches after my last one- there was some issue's I had w/ bleeding. Anyhow- after that one I know there was no "intimacy" for 6 weeks. ;)

I have had 2... Both I was awake and took tylenol an hour before hand... The first one I felt nothing at all... The second one I felt a pinch but the Dr. said it was because he had to go deeper then he thought to get the area in question off... The pain from the pinch last less then 30 seconds and I cramped after and had a little more bleeding but I was fine...

When I had mine I would say it is similar to a pinch followed by some mild cramping. I would suggest you take some Tylenol prior.
I was awake......Good Luck:goodvibes

I've had 1 about 3 years ago. It was done outpatient and I was under general annesthisia...they ended up taking more cells out then they thought. I was off my feet for about 2-3 days had internal stiches and some bleeding problems. I'd been in worse pain

Chicago526, this is soo not to scare you.

OMG, I must be the biggest baby, I cried thur mine. They gave me a pill to relax me, numbed my cervix and it still hurt like a b**ch. I wish they would have put me out for it. They took a nice size chunk too.

Again, Chicago526, that wasn't to scare you, I must be the odd ball.

Savanah's Mom: Are you sure what you had as a LEEP procedure, or just a cone biopsy? LEEP uses an electrical wire to pretty much cut, then cauterize the area they need to take out.

I had something a long, long time ago (and I wish i could remember what it was) and it was very painful -- but I don't think the LEEP should be that bad.

swandiverpatt, it was definatly a LEEP. I never want to do that again. Maybe I have an overly sensitive cervix?

No worries, they're putting me under general, so I'll be napping right through it! Thanks, for sharing though, I'm sorry your's didn't go that well!

If I would have known ahead of time how much I was going to hurt, they wouldn't have touched me with out putting me out. I know now for/if next time.

Good luck!! I hope they don't find anything!! OH, and I was fine after, just a little bleeding, and all I took was tylenol. It was just the procedure that sucked for me.
