I set my phone alert for the wrong time to check in for seating on a flight to Orlando tomorrow. Uggg... our seating assignments are C14 and C15 and upgrading would cost over $100.00. Will an upgrade be less expensive at the gate? Any chance of us sitting together?

Depends how full the flight is. If it's a mostly full flight, chances are low (a Sat AM flight to Orlando is likely a mostly full flight). Good luck!

I don't think Southwest discounts upgrades at the gate, and the longer you wait to upgrade, the more people will upgrade before you and the less valuable the upgrade will be (because there will be more people in front of you).

Whether you'll be able to find 2 seats together boarding in group C depends on how many people who board earlier want to sit together. There's always a chance you can find seats together, but it is also possible that only middle seats will be available. If you can live with that for a few hours, then do so; if that would be a really bad start and spoil the rest of your trip, do the upgrade.

Every Southwest flight I've taken to/from Orlando within the past year has been completely full with C group being almost guaranteed a middle seat. If you need or want to sit together, I would do the upgrade.

C19 and C20 (after changing to an earlier flight last week) were middle-seat only. An upgrade to A1-15 was not available.

It looked like we were going to have an opportunity to find side-by-side seats when we entered the plane, but they all filled in quickly.

You might want to take the first back-to-back middle, or wing exit seats.

Consider checking all bags and be prepared to check at the door if no more room. If you get one of the newer aircraft the bins will have more room.

Just remembered - We have been allowed to board earlier when we gate-checked our backs on a couple of occasions. Definitely worth keeping an eye out for.
