Hi - my DH and I are kicking around the idea of a Disney Cruise in possible Jan, Feb, Mar from Port Canaveral or FLL - I'd like it to be on the Treasure or the Wish - 4 - 7 day itinerary - but we can't commit to anything at the moment because I am having surgery in November which can possibly have a long recovery time so I was wondering if there are last minute type deals on Disney Cruises? Any thoughts on this? We can be flexible on the date

The treasure and the Wish will both be out of PC.

You can look for a guaranteed stateroom, those rates come with some restrictions (non refundable for starters), and DCL picks the room, but if you don't care where you are, they are generally cheaper than choosing your own room.

After your recovery I would poke around and see what's available. It's a tough time of year with the spring breaks and the first season of the treasure, so I'm not sure how many GT rates are available.

Date flexibility will help. One thing to keep in mind is that your options will be limited as far as staterooms go. I have looked at last minute availability before, but not booked it because it was too expensive. However, at the time I didn’t have a lot of date flexibility and I could see that some cruises were definitely cheaper than others.

I hope your surgery goes well and you can find a cruise to relax afterwards. :grouphug:

You might get a last minute deal on the Wish , doubt the Treasure will have any discounts. You can look under Special Offers on DCL website.

They also might offer the Guaranteed rate where you don’t pick a specific room only a category and you have to pay off the cruise when you book.

So the treasure has a guarantee rate for my April cruise and it costs more than just booking regular rate. I thought the guarantee rate was suppose to be cheaper.

Is it a Guarantee room within a specific category or an IGT/OGT/VGT rate?

A guaranteed rate within a category becomes available when most rooms in that category have been sold and guarantees a cabin at that category or better. It has the same booking conditions, and close to the same cost, as booking a specific cabin. It's possible it costs a little more than the current price of some other cabins in the category because it has the possibility of getting something better.

A IGT/OGT/VGT restricted rate guarantees an Inside, Oceanview, or Veranda room or better. It requires full payment at time of booking with no changes or refunds allowed.

To return to the original question, it is possible that restricted rates will be available for cruises in January-March. Since final payment is typically due 2 months or so before sailing, having to pay at time of booking wouldn't be much of an issue. As mentioned, with a *GT rate you can't pick a specific room. You may also find that many onboard activities and excursions are sold out. If you don't care about the room and don't care about activities, you could certainly wait until you're recovered and look to see which cruises are still available and which, if any, have discounted restricted rates.

Got it, it is a guaranteed room with just the verandas. It says they pick your room, not many left. It says nothing about full payment due at time of booking.
So I understand it’s the restricted rates that are cheaper.

Good point about activities and excursions being sold out

Given that it will be non-refundable and must be fully paid - I will have to wait until we are certain that we can go

Not likely to find last minute deals on the Treasure those months since that’s still the inaugural season . I doubt Disney will need to offer discounted fares.

You may have better luck with the Wish, especially in later January which tends to be a bit of a low season.

You can look online now for sailings those months and see if any currently have discounts available to give you an idea of what might be available.

There are VGT rates on the Wish for January right now. Seems to be more and more Wish guarantee rates. Bet you can grab one after you heal.

We book VGT rates on the fantasy several times per year. We don’t mind having second dining or not getting our first choice of excursions, etc. We prefer the cheaper cruise fares so we can cruise more times per year.
