Is DCL considered a travel expense on your credit card?

I'm about to pay the balance of my upcoming cruise and I'm trying to maximize my cash back. I have a card that gives 3% on "eligible travel purchases." I assume this would include DCL but I have no idea how to verify. Has anyone looked into this and can give me any insight?

We always use the Disney Visa from Chase so we earn onboard credit. I guess you should call the customer service of the card you have and check how they view a Disney Cruise payment.

I would be very surprised if it wasn't counted as a travel purchase, but it would be best to call customer service and verify.

I booked a DCL Med Cruise with the new Costco Visa and received the 3%. It was detailed in the bill, so I'm sure it was given.

Yes, definitely!

Yes. Also Disney Vacation Account deposits were considered travel expenses by the cc I used last year (Barclay's).

I use it for my taxes for travel expense. Since I'm doing a lot of phone calls and producing emails. Lol

Consult your tax person for further.

I used the costco visa for my Carnival cruise and got 3%.

Merchants code themselves, not credit card companies or banks. Disney Cruise should come as travel, as others have said above, but you cannot call your credit card in advance.

Actually their credit card processor (merchant service) determines the code for the merchant. There is a lot involved and it can significantly impact the fees charged to the merchant based on the code category they are put in.

I stand corrected except for the part that calling your credit card issuer won't help as what a merchant is coded as, be it travel or otherwise, is not something you as a cardholder or your issuing bank controls. That said you'll still be fine. Disney cruise is obviously travel.

My DCL cruise purchase, made through Costco Travel's website, coded as Travel on my Chase visa (Sapphire Preferred), so it earned 2x points. As others have mentioned, it hits the card as coming from Disney Travel, not your travel agent. I don't have the Costco Visa (didn't have the AmEx before that, either), so I don't know if there are any specific bonuses associated with that.
