Independence of the Seas - Nov 17, 2018

Late to the party here
Labadee - we prefer the beach all the way to the right after you get off the ship - near the water inflatables. The water slide is pretty lame, the coaster is ok and the zipline is fun.
This is Columbus Cove. You take a (free one way) water taxi over there. It's not as crowded (food area included), not as rocky, and waves aren't as rough. Downside - you will need to take a tram back or walk back. This goes through a "local market" area which can have some pushy vendors. The stuff they're selling isn't bad, but they take cash only.

Also, you will see people who will set up loungers for you. They are locals and they are doing this for tips (bring a few $ for this). If you don't want to tip them, don't accept their help.

Why are there locals? Unlike Castaway Cay or Coco Cay, Labadee is a peninsula on Haiti, so presumably some folks travel there to make a few dollars.

Labadoozies is a fruity frozen drink available here, and can be had with or without rum. If you're having a drink, I recommend this over a beer.

Do you folks think that the all day roller coaster pass is worth it? Or would one ride be enough?
From what I've seen the "rides" at Labadee are all rather overpriced. There are better ziplines to be had elsewhere in the Caribbean, and an all day coaster pass would take away from beach time.

In Falmouth, you may want to just walk around the pier area. It's got the usual shops but there's some local flavour like a patty stand and places to buy coffee (definitely negotiate if you're getting some). Diamonds International has a complimentary bar on the second floor. In case you want to indulge in a free drink or two.

We went ahead and got the all day coaster pass. We rode one in the Smokey Mountains and loved it. We are in a suite this time so I think there is a beach for us. Don’t know if we will stay there but we will probably make it base camp for lack of any better ideas.

What type of suite are you in? If you are in a junior suite you will not have access to barefoot beach (suites beach area).

For full suites, the suite concierge might have a bridge tour for guests in suites. Does not happen on every ship and sailing.
