Hi,
I am trying to plan some fun events for a spirit week for our school K-6. Can anyone offer any suggestions for fun? Thanks so much!:thumbsup2

My DD's have enjoyed the theme days, like pajama day, crazy hat day, mis-matched day, luau day, etc.

my boys have always loved spirit week. over the years they have had pajama day, hat day, school color day, inside out day, twin day (you and a friend dress alike) sports day (dress in a sports uniform or jersey), crazy hair day, backwards day, hawaiian day, green day or red day or whatever color you decided, dress up day, clown day, etc.

I agree theme days are nice.

I work in a k-12 building. We have had Camo- Day, Nerd Day, Super Hero Day, School Spirit Day, PJ Day Hat Day and more that I dont remember.

Future Farmers of America had their week a few back. My personal favorite is drive your tractor to school day. Of course your school is younger kids. It is always fun so see a parking lot full of combines and tractors.

Silly sock day! My DD LOVED this one when she was in elementary school.

One of my kid's favorites was beach day. They wore shorts and t-shirts, sunglasses and brought a beach towel for the activity time in the gym. They had a DJ who organized fun dances and they ate their lunch in the gym picnic style.:thumbsup2

When DD was in elementary school one of the most fun dress up days she ever had was "Favorite Book Character Day". They had that in March which is reading month and it was a lot of fun and something different then the usual hat day or spirit day. She dressed as Molly from the American Girl books and had a ball.

wacky-tacky day
neon day
super-hero...those are our days

a dj at lunch is a HUGE hit. we get the money for this via a teacher raffle example the 4th grade teacher will bring you a large pizza to lunch. the 8th grade teacher will play 3 on 3 with you and 4 friends...etc.

We try to get teachers involved, our students love to see the teachers eat ice cream sundaes with their hands ties behind their backs. The students vote by applause who the 3 or 4 teachers are. So, they do not know that they will be doing it until the day of.

Our kids school does the "dress like your favorite book character" day as well, however they do it for halloween. I guess this is either their answer to avoid issues about halloween or someone complained about halloween.
They also do spirit week which was last week....they did Wacky Tacky, Career, dress like a twin, sports clothing, and Pajama day. Pajama day was the biggest hit. Maybe we can implement that one at my job!!!

When I was a senior in highschool we had "dress like a teacher day" that was hillarious. :lmao:

Thanks everyone for the great ideas. I can always count on my Diser friends! TYTYTY:thumbsup2

I love the idea of spirit week, but I HATE pajama day. I don't think that kids should wear pajamas to school. For some reason I think it is inappropriate to wear pjs to school, especially since so many of them are the snug fit kind that are made like that to resist fire. I like themes that are easy and don't require parents to feel like they need to go out and buy something. Color day(pick any color), mismatched sock day, crazy hair, hat day, backwards or inside out day... I teach high school and we had spirit week and wearing a tie day was a big hit with the kids.

My Dd's school had, nerd day, career day, twin day, book character day and blast from the pat day.

I personally don't like twin day as it tends to leave the least popular kids out. My poor DD had to dress like her teacher...she was pretty okay with it, my heart broke!!!

It's not for spirit week, but our school is having a "marathon" where they walk laps around the carpool lane for $/lap pledges. They are doing this during their specials time. The money goes to the PTA and there are prizes for different categories of pledges. They are allowed to bring their IPods and wear their spirit wear instead of their uniforms.

I agree with a pp, any thing that makes a teacher look silly is fun for the kids! Our principal had to kiss a pig when the school raised money for juvenile diabetes!

you could have a day where the kids dress in the school colors, we did this one year and I even colored the boys' hair with hair spray color-blue and red. They also have book character day, this is usually with a read-in day. They have Polar Express day (but at Christmas time) and that is when they can wear their pajamas.

I agree with the other poster.....we did not care for Twin day....might be fun for Middle or High school, (although I agree it can leave some kids out based on popularity) but my issue at the elementary school level was it would have taken coordintation on the parents part to get two kids together to dress alike. Kindergardeners and 2nd graders just do not have the forsight to plan ahead in this manner on their own. My kinder son and 2nd grade daughter dressed alike in their school uniform shirt and matching camo pants. But I would imagine it is not much fun to dress like your sibling in the Uniform shirt. :rotfl:

I really don't like nerd day. It is just making fun of people that are not popular. I know that kids think it is funny to tape the glasses and pull their pants up high with a silly tie and it seems harmless enough, but why teach them at an early age that certain groups of people are funny to imitate or make fun of? That looking "different" is funny? Same with punk rock day. It is inappropriate for school I think.

We had twin or "multiples" day once. The multiples part solved alot of problems so that groups of girls could be octuplets etc. so not as many feeling were hurt. But there will always be SOMEONE who isn't asked to group with someone, so not a great idea I think.

I like alot of the other ideas here.

I'm a bit disturbed by the inclusion of nerd day. I think that it encourages just that kind of bullying mentality that I work hard to discourage in my school.:confused3

someone mentioned one the other day I had never heard of, your favorite vacation spot tee shirt day.

My kids have done the usual crazy hat day, dd just had a crazy hair day, 50's, 60's, 70 and 80's day, backwards day,
