I'm allergic to nuts. I want to serve a cheese ball at a party but all the ones I see are rolled in nuts. I guess I'm going to have to make my own, but what should I substitute for the nuts? I've seen parsly before, but that seems pretty dull. Do any of you great cooks have any yummy ideas?

How about crushed crackers or breadcrumbs? Crushed pretzels or potato chips?

I'm not allergic to nuts, but I hate them. So instead of putting them on my cheeseball, I put shredded ham on it. The cheeseball has ham in it, so I just shred some more and it put it all around the outside.

My friends do the same thing with theirs, but it has shredded beef inside so they put shredded beef on the outside. It's yummy, too!

Also, you could always put shredded cheese on it...just sprinkle it all over and press it into the ball. :D

Here's one for you:

cream cheese softened
dried beef cut up in small pieces
1/2 c shredded cheese , cheddar or colby or colbyjack (about)

mix together and then roll in shredded cheese.

You can add onions, black olives, sesame seeds in with the mixture. Very good and very easy!

I make a cheese ball with green peppers, onions & bacon bits in it and just roll it in bacon bits for the outside.

I used to make one with horseradish in the cream cheese & then rolled it in finely chopped dried beef. I think there was dried beef mixed in the cheese as well, but I can't find the recipe to check it.

Here is a recipe that a fellow cm brings in every year for Christmas:

2 pkg Cream Cheese
1 jar Old English Cheese
1-2 small jars dried beef (or 1 large jar)
3-4 T freeze dried chives
1 t dried minced onion
1/4 t celery salt
1/4 t garlic powder
1/2 t season salt
2 T worcestershire sauce

Cream together cream cheese, Old English cheese and worcestershire sauce. Add other seasonings and mix well. Chop up half of the dried beef in small pieces and mix into cheese mixture. Form into a ball. Place 3 slices of dried beef on plate. Place ball of cheese on dried beef and cover top and sides with remaining dried beef. Refrigerate overnight. Serve with crackers.

I look forward to this every year. It is so delicious!

easiest and best cheese ball I have ever had:
1 8oz package of Cream Cheese
1 small jar chopped green olives
1 TB horseradish

mix well and roll into a ball, sprinkle with a dried herb topping on top! I like to use Mrs. Dash

I roll mine in shredded ham.....no real recipe, just add everything until it tastes right

1 pkg cream cheese
garlic salt
minced onion
Worchesterer sauce--probably a TBSP or two
shedded ham--I usually use the lunchmeat kind, it's easier

Mix everything together except the ham, or use part of the ham in the ball, and roll the whole thing in the rest of the ham. Serve with Ritz crackers.

Isn't pesto nuts or is that just pesto sauce? I guess you could just use basil.

I made one for Thanksgiving that was from a "Tastefully Simple" packet. It was Cranberry/Orange. I thought it would be too fruity or sweet but my sister's family really liked it. It was good.

I have a jar of Bertolli Pesto in my fridge, I just checked and there are no nuts in the ingredient list. I think some may put pine nuts in them, but this one doesn't.

Pesto is fresh basil blended with garlic, olive oil, parmasan cheese, and sometimes pine nuts or walnuts.

That snowman is just too cute! I've gotta try that this weekend.
