I love credit cards so much! v6.0 - 2023 (see first page for add'l details)

Thanks to @FreeDiningFanatic @GZanta77 @hsmamato2 @wanderlust7 @Twilghtsprkle @calypso726 for helping us make an educated decision on the Singapore flight!! After discussing with my DH all of the valid concerns, experiences, and opinions you guys have had, we came to the conclusion that the overnight flight is more suited to us, and at the advice of ya'll, we'll probably book a hotel for the night before in Singapore so we have somewhere to land with our stuff and freshen up upon early morning arrival!
The recommendations and travel experience we have on this board is truly invaluable! I really appreciate all the help :grouphug::hug:

I know this is a super popular award route, so now comes the tough part.. to try and secure 2 seats in J for the dates we want, at Saver rates! We are throwing around two departure dates: November 28 or 29, 2025 (which is Thanksgiving weekend), or the following weekend, either December 5th or 6th. We'll be on this trip for 2 weeks, so we'd come back around Dec 13 or 20, respectively. Do you guys think it's a problem traveling Thanksgiving weekend? It's been over 10 years since I've flown specifically around Thanksgiving. Should we wait and travel in December instead, for less headache? Is Dec 20 too close to Xmas that it's also going to be a headache returning to the US? Also, I wonder if there will even be saver rates on these dates at all. I've been watching the calendar for next November, and some dates don't have any saver availability at all. It looks like the EWR morning route has more availability where that is concerned.
Slightly late to this, but I did the EWR-SIN flight earlier this year (in PY). Stayed in the Marriott at Newark the night before to make it easier to get to EWR in the morning. Wasn't a fan of EWR though as the departure area that SQ uses has almost nothing post-security so there was very little to do (but then again I was in PY so no lounge access)!

I didn't have any issue sleeping on the EWR-SIN flight however this was after a pretty hectic week in WDW so I was pretty tired out by that point! (I also tend to sleep really well on flights...)

Both nonstop NYC-SIN flights use the A350-900ULR in the same Business/PY configuration (this is the only aircraft that can fly this particular route). The one-stop JFK-FRA-SIN flight currently uses a B777 I think, though in the past this flight has had an A380.

In terms of saver/availability... one thing that might make it a bit harder for you is that November/December are Singapore school holidays, so a lot of saver rates get booked up very quickly for travel dates in November/December. Seems the general advice for popular dates is to book the moment seats are released... see https://milelion.com/2024/11/05/psa...-seats-temporarily-unavailable-at-t-355-days/ and https://mainlymiles.com/2024/03/19/when-does-singapore-airlines-first-open-award-seats/ for timings and notes about different times for flights out of the USA.

You could also consider the JFK-FRA-SIN flight as an alternative (in case redemptions are available for this but not for the other flights). (The business class seat on the long haul A350 and the B777 are identical.)

Looking for some input on an electronics purchase from Dell. I need a travel laptop (or maybe a Chromebook, whatever that is) that will let me access and edit Microsoft Word documents and also can do simple streaming (like from Netflix). It doesn't need to store much of anything. Bonus points for being lightweight and being able to connect to headphones and a mouse.

Any suggestions? I'm thinking that a very basic laptop would do but I honestly don't understand what a Chromebook is . . .
so I got my Acer Chromebook (199 Costco bf deal) so far I like it fine, basic computing needs....the only issue I'm having is connecting to my printer and I need to take a minute to figure it out..... If I can;t fix it,I may return it but otherwise it's fine for basic stuff overall

Thanks so much for the info and websites. I guess I'll be setting an alarm to wake up at 1am, or stay awake until then, to try and book these flights... maybe multiple nights in a row 😭. Did not know about the Singapore school holidays, ugh! Why can't reward redemptions be easier, lol.

Glad to hear it helped :-)

I personally don't think traveling around Thanksgiving is an issue. Before we started doing our annual, both sides of the family trip to WDW for Thanksgiving, it was my go to time of year for a getaway. The year we went back to Iceland to see it in the winter was during Thanksgiving and I am pretty sure I did a mini trip report on one of the previous I love credit card threads way back when, 2017 maybe, for that.
Agreed, I don't think Thanksgiving matters. I think Dec 20 is early for domestic Christmas travel but I can't speak to international. That date gives me more pause. I'd personally shoot for the Nov 28/29 because that gives you a second chance at the following weekend if you aren't able to secure that first set of dates.
Thanks! I'm going to take the advice... try for the first weekend of dates, and if it doesn't work out go for the second. I think that's the smarter way to approach this, especially given the time of year and popularity of the route. May the odds be ever in my favor, lol.

I found the due date on the app, but couldn’t find it on my computer for some reason. It’s going to be due 12/21.

Your closing date will be 21-28* days prior, so somewhere between November 23 and November 30. If I recall, you are trying to earn CP for 2025-26, so you won't want to complete your MSR until after your December statement closing date.

*The experts here can probably chime in with an exact date.
Since we're talking about CP I'm going to assume Chase SW cards, so I think your Nov closing date is today actually.
The easy way for me to remember is payment date + 3 for anything other than Ink cards. Inks are payment + 6. Ignoring anything between 29-31 dates of a month (Chase uses 28 day month, so just pretend those days don't exist when adding on to the due date)

So 21+3 = 24th of the month. I think you'll find out tomorrow if a statement cut and updated the dates.

Hilton question--I thought if you booked four nights with points, you got the 5th night free. I'm starting to rebook a trip to Japan with 5 nights at the Tokyo Hilton, two at Tokyo Disney, and two in Osaka (ds wants to go to Universal). So my plan was to use points for 5 nights at the Tokyo Hilton and two free night certificates for the Conrad Osaka. But when I go to book the Hilton Tokyo, they seem to be charging for all five nights. Am I doing something wrong or did something change?

ETA: I think the issue is the Hilton only has premium reward nights. Might switch to the Conrad Tokyo since they have Standard Reward nights so it's about 72,000 points less to stay there for five nights.

Has anyone ever scheduled a Chase card payment, and it never went through? Just logged into our account, I set a payment on 11/20, but the card now shows a message "We didn't receive your payment." The due date was yesterday, 11/23, so it's past due now. I checked my email, and I have the bill pay confirmation email that it was set to be paid 11/20. When I look under the Payment Summary screen in Chase, it DOES show the payment was completed, with a confirmation number even! This is so weird. I've never had this happen. Do I need to message them? Anyone seen anything weird like this happen?

ETA: this morning I got an email that the "Payment has been received on 11/24". What the heck. I think Chase's payment system is going wonky.

Question about US Bank offers. If you add one to your account, can you use it with any of the credit cards in your login? I don’t see a way to accept and assign it to a specific card (unless I’m missing something). I would like to use it on a card I have a SUB to meet.

Yes, I have had this happen and it WAS a glitch. But I would reach out to them in case your payment failed in some way. Did you check to see if it was withdrawn from your bank?

It does show from my bank that the payment came out today. So I guess some glitch that it didn't come out last week, 11/20, when it was scheduled. I wonder if I should check to make sure they aren't counting it as a late payment now...

Not all printers work well with ChromeOS. I've used a Chromebook as my primary portable computer for 4-5 years. There is a list out there of printers that work well with Chromebooks, most of the cheap ones aren't on that list. I've taken to saving anything I need to print and then using my Windows desktop to print, or plugging the Chromebook directly into the printer.

And in credit card news
1. cancelled DH's Amex Bonvoy Business. Wanted to get a statement credit offer to offset the AF. Offered 10000 points for $2000 spend. He is eligible for the personal Chase Bonvoy card. I'll look at getting that so it lines up with my 2 FNCs. I also hate that you have to wait 2-3 months to get the FNC on AMEX.

2. Matching 20K URs posted for the CIP. :cool1:

3. I need to close a CIC. It's my oldest one and it is linked to DH's business cards to combine points. I am scared I'll lose the ability to combine/link a new card after I close. I've been reluctant to close due to the linkage. There is no way I'll be approved with it open given Chase's crackdown.

It's been 3-4 weeks since I supported P2 for the Disney premier, and no bonus has been posted to me. Anyone else seeing these come very slowly? When I supported DD it posted pretty quickly.

Not a new story but I just got a letter from NCL today regarding my cruise in Aug 2025 that departs from Southampton (so new to me). US citizens will need an ETA to travel to/through UK starting in January.

Thank you for this! Hadn't realized they were doing anything.

I keep seeing something similar discussed on reddit for DLP but they are mostly UK based and I keep forgetting to look it up for the US. I need to see what I may need for France. The date keeps getting pushed so I haven't fully paid attention.

More info on that here for EU https://travel-europe.europa.eu/index_en

No date other than early 2025 for now.

Back from Cancun. It was short, but the weather cooperated. But I don't think I could go if it's under 80. Those pools aren't heated and it can be cold when a cloud rolls in and a slight breeze. I was hoping to stay at the Hideaway both nights. I actually tried to snag both nights there, but an error happened as I was trying to cancel the one night and rebook it. I called Marriott, and they could see the room available too, but they couldn't book me for it. I asked when we got there, but they wouldn't let us stay in the Hideaway both nights. They tried to tell us our 2nd night room was nicer because it was ocean view. It was pool view, with a tiny smidge of ocean if you stood on your tip toes. It was loud until after midnight, and it was 2 queen beds that squeaked the entire night. Oh and the bathtub was so dirty, it was GROSS!

Since we had hideaway bracelets (gold) till about noon, we went to breakfast in that area. And then grabbed chairs in that area. When we had to check out they made us switch bracelets to navy blue. So I hid mine w/ a hair scrunchie, LOL. We stayed at the adult pool the rest of the day. I will say, I won't stay in the non-adult area though....I like how much more quiet it is. Also they seemed to be redoing 2 buildings so they were completely empty and dark which was weird at night.

Now I have to decide if it's worth going to PHL and AC on Weds to status match.....My rental car is is like $50 I think. Tolls are around $20 my BF said. And I'm using 11k AA miles if I do it. But then we'd have 4 nights at the Wynn to use. So for less than $100 we'd have the 2 nights there. Might be worth it.

On hold with Marriott (and holding back tears).... I called Fairfield Anaheim Resort to put a note on my reservations (had one on cash and one using 2 FNCs) to link so I could stay in the same room all 3 nights. Well the CSR merged them but when she merged it she removed my FNCS and took 114K points as the nights are higher points now. She never even said that she was doing that. I would have said leave them alone. OMG. I'd never pay 114K points. Trying to get it resolved but I may need to pay OOP or cancel the trip. Very upsetting.
OMG, Marriott help was the worst. She almost cancelled my room, and couldn't book me into the room/resort I wanted even though it was showing available. I gave up. Lucky yours was fixed!

I had it happen last month. I swear I had it happen early this month too. Maybe I should look and see if I did schedule a payment. Because I thought for sure I did. But more recently they reversed the charges within a day w/o me saying anything.
