Hilton Surpass offer is every quarter, right? We're heading to Resorts World in 2 weeks and I plan on charging everything to the room, so maybe I hold off on getting a gift card. I'm assuming I can use the $50 GC I bought there if needed too....
Nothing like waiting till the last minute, but my daughter just signed up for her Winter classes. So I have that spend, to throw at the $1k left on my CIU. I also have my homeowners (though I need to call around as they raised it another $200 this year), and my taxes coming up. I normally put some of these beginning of year bills on my Surpass to get a start on the $15k. But I'm wondering if I need to be looking at any other cards. I have nothing on my radar right now. In fact I don't know what card I should be getting next, LOL.
Remind me, we can have the IHG Biz and then one IHG personal card, right?
Oh and w/ Michigan winning yesterday, I may be looking at flights and hotels in Houston, LOL. Now if only the tickets weren't $3k right now. Back in 97 when UM was in the Rose Bowl I lived in Vegas and won a jackpot just days before! We were going to go, but my dad then told me how 3 planes of people were heading to LA thinking they had tickets when they actually didn't. My college roommate got offered $1k for her ticket! My dad always said I should have still gone. So there's a part of me that thinks he would want me to use some of his money to go, LOL.
I don’t want to “yuck on your yum,” but we went to the Royalton Hideaway Punta Cana for my older DS’ spring break two years ago (his school has a horrible tradition where moms and kids go on senior year spring break together - horrible because moms have to witness the spring break debauchery
). Anyway! The resort was lovely, especially the Hideaway area. But the food was pretty terrible, and difficult to get reservations. Be very proactive with your concierge/butler in setting up dining reservations for the whole week as soon as you can. Pack snacks. Lots of snacks. DS and I ate pre-packaged sandwiches from an airport convenience store in CLT on the way home and decided it was the best meal we had all week
. But it really was a lovely resort, so enjoy that but adjust your expectations on the dining!
How bad we talking? I'm a picky eater, so I'm eating like a 5yo. But my BF normally is the one enjoying the food. Have you been to the Royalton in Cancun? We've been there twice. We're only going for 3 nights. And there's just 2 of us, so I'd hope between all the options we could find something.
This was our experience for our Ireland trip in June this year. I booked biz using Avios as soon as the window opened for our red eye over to Dublin. We returned from Shannon and I booked economy using Avios since it was a day time trip. A few months before our trip I wondered about trying to upgrade using Avios and did a chat (I think it was chat). Anyway, they gave me an email to send my question to
aerclubupgrade@aerlingus.com . So I sent all the specific details about our booking and asked if we could upgrade. This was their response in March of this year:
Upgrade requests using Avios with Aer Lingus can only be requested on direct www.aerlingus.com bookings. As your booking was made through www.Avios.com it would not be possible to request to upgrade on this type of booking.

If find it a little confusing because you can use Avios to upgrade a cash booking, but you can't use Avios if you've made a booking using Avios I guess.
UGH! So annoying. So I'm assuming you didn't get tup upgrade, right? Everything I read online said people w/ Avios bookings were able to upgrade too. My mom is only 5'3. She's done the super long flights in economy in the past. Maybe I can spin the fact she could go again w/ her left over Avios and book biz then....
If you can swing Banff, then go! It's high on my list of places to visit. The Moxy looks like it's in a great location. Go for it!!
On another note, AmEx told me that I'd have my FNC and HH points from my July HH personal card (MSR met Sept. 8th) by today. Unsurprisingly no points and no FNC in my account. I placed another call to AmEx -- the CSR told me (after I gave her my case number) that since I already had other AmEx cards I didn't qualify for the SUB. I let her ramble on for a few minutes before asking that she thoroughly read the case notes; she apologized profusely and put me through to a supervisor. The supervisor is going to "contact the back office" for an update and get back to me tomorrow. At this point I am wondering if I'll ever see the SUB.
The HH missing SUB continues. No supervisor called me back yesterday so I had to place another call to AmEx. The wait for a supervisor was over 25 minutes. This supervisor emphatically told me that the issue would be resolved by mid-January. I told her that a supervisor told me on December 10th that it would be resolved by December 31st. She told me that she had been dealing with this issue for several weeks and never once heard the end-of-year date and reiterated mid-January. I pressed her on the December 31st date and she finally agreed to talk to her "support team". After a long duration on hold she came back and said that her support team was able to locate a memo that stated the December 31st timeline, though she said that she had not heard anything about it and questioned how I knew (because the supervisor I spoke to a few wks ago told me). She put me on hold again and finally came back and said that with the help of the support team they were able to push through my 80k points and the FNC. She said the points should show in 48 hours and the FNC may take up to 2 weeks. She told me that the problem wasn't just the system glitch not recognizing when MSR was met, it was also that the AmEx system was not allowing affected accounts to have points put in them. She said between Friday and yesterday my account had been fixed and they were able to manually push through the SUB. I am hopeful this time, but will believe it when I have the pts and FNC in my account. When I asked about the bonus points she said she had not heard anything about this (here we go again.....), but she was not able to put any bonus points in my account (she did offer 3k HH pts lol). She said to follow-up in a month if no bonus points are in my account. Total call time was 1h10m.
UGH! I think my BF was going to look into his last week, then he got the flu. This is beyond annoying. Will he ever get his points and FNC? He's never had ANY Hilton card, so it would be interesting to see. Also I never got my referral points. I'm thinking I never will since this is such a mess.
