I’m outta here

I’m just glad I bought the majority of my points long long ago (and apparently in a galaxy far far away too 😂) either resale prior to any restrictions or direct back when it was ‘reasonable’…only thing I’ve bought resale post restrictions was HH with the intend to ONLY use at HH…and direct was a couple of small add ons (less than 100 points each) cause resale doesn’t save you enough for the hassle (my opinion) and Poly (tower) which was more than I really should have paid but the DVC Sirens were just too strong!

Some of the stuff I've read on FB is truly wild. People that don't understand the product AT ALL. They don't know how far their points will go. Or what their use year means. Or which hotels they can book when. It's crazy. I mean, I purchased after only researching for a month or so but I read a LOT beforehand.

And not only do they not understand the product, some of the things they are upset now are complete deal breakers for them. This isn’t a cheap investment and I get the pixie dust can be strong but still…

Twice on my last vacation I spotted people decked out in DVC clothing and merch standing in line with me. Both times I tried chatting them up about vacation club and it was pretty clear they had zero clue how it worked. I stopped trying to engage with people after that.

Genuine quote from a DVC FB group this afternoon:

If you stay at the animal kingdom resort is the park visit included?? Never been- not my home resort- just looking at other trips to add! 🙂🙂

I see stuff like this every day. It’s totally baffling, but seems many people are more than happy to just smash $20k on a product they literally have no idea how to use.

It’s a bit like my relationship with iPhones actually 🤔

Something tells me Jaymarkm isn't going to answer our queries. However the posting underlines why we always bought direct. I have to say, we didn't join DVC for any other reason than to save $$$ on a hotel room. If we were still happy with moderate/value resorts we'd've continued that way but we wanted that walkable location. We're happy with saving $$ on a hotel room and have drifted into the 2DPH zone.
Agreed. A huge part of why we initially bought in was that we couldn’t stomach paying 700$ per night for a normal hotel room 2-3 times per year (and that was in 2008). Now we have better rooms (1BR or 2BR or bungalow) and feel like it is a savings. Yes dues increase and perks come and go but we like having weeklong relaxing trips in a room with space. Spouse and I would probably lose it if we were in a standard hotel room for 8 nights.
What amazes me is people buying into DVC whether resale or direct without fully understanding the product. I dont see it as often here but I do on facebook. I cannot spending that kind of money and not doing a ton of research but it happens.
This boggles my mind too. People do not seem to grasp the basics - booking windows, banking/borrowing, points charts, etc. I recently saw a post where someone had bought RIV resale and did not understand why they couldn’t use the points for a different resort.

It actually is a purchasing sub though and people choosing to sell is relevant but would like more details for those looking to get in.

Getting money back though is an example though people on the fence can use.
Okay but as you can see from OP never coming back to follow up with any details on their thread, that doesn't seem to be why they posted this to begin with.

Ya I just dont see an issue with people posting they are "out".

If this was nonstop daily posts that is one thing. Just a random post here or there does seem to kick off some good conversation.

A couple spotted my bag while waiting for the monorail last week. They threw a barrage of questions at me about booking priority and if it's worth it. I felt okay with answering them since we were riding, but maybe the people you were talking to were in a rush?

I wonder why they thought AKL would include park tickets when obviously their home resort didn't. So strange!

Maybe tell them to request the Simba Level Rooms through member services as that way they can not only see the lions from their balcony but also walk to Kilamanjaro Safaris where they'll find a lightning lane pass for the ride automatically in their MDE app. :(

I immediately thought of this conversation when I saw that post. :rotfl2:

She had some other posts and clearly was one of those that spent a lot of money without doing basic research.

In fairness to the person who asked about AKL/park tickets...AKL is the only resort with the name of the park actually in the resort name, so to someone who is new or has done no research at all, maybe it does seem a little less crazy of a question.

I wish I had the luxury to drop a bunch of cash on something without a lot of research. 🤣
I did a DVC tour back in May (mainly for the $200 gift card) and tbh the guide seemed pretty annoyed that I actually knew how DVC worked lol I feel like they actually want these uninformed buyers but that's more conspiracy theory on my end.
