HP Robes..... worth it or not?

I'm a HP nut, and every Halloween I've wanted to be someone from HP, but never got to it!

Now with Pottermore having finally opened, I was sorted into my house and got Hufflepuff (Becausde I'm so friendly!). Now I want to be myself in wizard form for Halloween (Hufflepuff robe, an owl with a letter (that or a pet cat), and my willow wand, which I also learned of on Pottermore)

I know that they don't sell HP robes for Hufflepuff, Slytherin and Ravenclaw at the party store we buy our costumes from each year, and so, since I have no idea of how to get a Hufflepuff robe any other way, I thought about buying one from the WWoHP. But the $100 price tag threw me off a little.

And besides, some of my friends may think I'm wacky if I'm buying a HP robe, even though every winter I take my HP Gryffindor (Only one I have) scarf out and wear it when it's super cold.

So, for anyone who has bought the robes, is it worth it for that much? Or is it not worth it? I'm THINKING abou it right now but not sure....

I think it mainly depends on your amount of disposable income.

I purchased one last May. Added a wand and went as Harry for Halloween. It primarily just sits in my closet but it does bring a smile when I see it. Pretty sure it will get used for a few Halloweens, plus with a toddler at home I assume it'll get pulled out for play time in the years to come.

If you compare the store robes to the film ones (or even the ones being worn by the TMs at the park), you'll find that the colors are really off. The yellow lining for the Hufflepuff robe is a bright, canary yellow, while the authentic color is a darker gold/mustard color.

If you want an awesome, authenic costume piece from WWoHP, go for the sweaters. They're made by the same company that made them for the films- they have the long-sleeved solid sweater and the long-sleeved cardigan. I have one (it's Hufflepuff, too!), and it's awesome :) They also have really nice Hufflepuff ties and scarves (both of which I own).

I'm a Potter nerd and a collector and I have several house robes I've purchased throughout the last 10 years, including all 4 houses sold at the WWoHP. The ones sold at the WWoHP are a great quality...sturdy material, strong clasp, fully lined and the colors and details are spot on. The ones sold at the parks are the same deluxe robes sold online through Warner Brothers. They are expensive but finding a Hufflepuff robe in a cheaper costume form is going to be close to impossible, usually the cheaper Halloween versions are only sold in Gryffindor and Slytherin.

As for your friends thinking you're wacky, don't let it bother you. There is nothing wrong with you collecting Potter things. I started my collection when book 1 came out and now I have pieces I had to have insured as they are worth so much.

If you can afford it without hurting your budget, and you WANT one, go for it. :)

The Hufflepuff color is a bit *bright*, especially in scarf form, but since everyone says JK had a hand in everything in Wizarding World, I suppose it's what she wanted.

If you have an annual pass, you can get a discount on it. Helped take the sting off of DS's robe purchase. (and he's a kid, so if the HP madness continues with him, at some point we'll have to buy a bigger one, eek)

My daughter bought a set in 2011. They were not cheap, but they are high quality (honestly, I think it's better put together than my doctoral academic attire, and I spent a lot more on that!)

Well, we're working on the budget right now, and I know that I'd like a wand and a robe, and the budget mainly depends on what we can reach. And my list (without the robe) was around $200 :scared1:! So now I have to do a few cuts. I found a few things I can cut from my list, but all that Honeydukes candy is adding up!!!!!!!!!!

If I can fit it in with my budget, I will defintely buy one. I could probably use that robe for years to come if I get it in a good size.

Thanks!

they cost $99 when i want to me thats very expensive but thats just me lol

Dumbledore's robe at a bargain for $700.00 :scared1:

They are awesome robes! I was tempted to buy one myself. (Ravenclaw) but instead I tried one on and had my daughter take a picture of me in it!

Maybe next time...

I only have $50 right now, so the robe is probably going to be a next time sort of thing. Unless I can scrape together money in the next few days. That will be impossible. Unless.....

Dumbledore's robe is $700? Wow.

I wonder how much the dress beside it (Hermione's Yule Ball gown, if I'm right) is. Probably a little less than Dumbledore's robes, but still not cheap.

I may just have to settle for a T-shirt and a wand. All the HP stuff they sell there drives me crazy. :headache:

The good news is, if you take some time to try them on and figure out what size would be best for you, you could buy it later, online.

The other news is...from that link, it seems they've gone up. Ouch.

FWIW, while the candy is cool, what we've tried of it isn't that *good*. (and for us, most of it has ingredients that can't be eaten in my household) The chocolate is "meh" at best.

But I'll admit that some of the containers are cool enough to make just the container worth it as a souvenir. Like the Bertie Bott's box; took out the package of jelly bellies (their ingredients aren't good for us) and filled it with Trader Joes safe jelly beans. :) Chocolate frogs are still in the freezer (well, bits of them as my son is not a chocolate expert) but the containers for them sit around the house. etc.

I just want to make sure you know that the container will be the good souvenir...not *necessarily* the candy.

On the other other hand, Rock Cakes are delish! (IMO...your mileage and tastes may vary)

Hi BrinkOfSunshine!

Years ago (around 2011) I had the magnificent experience of getting my Hufflepuff robe from the Wizarding World! I loved it dearly and while wearing it used some of the last bits of my childhood imagination.

The next year my very religious grandmother had me throw it away and I've missed it ever since. I decided to go get a new one when I discovered that Wizarding World has since changed the fabric completely! Now it's this rough, hot polyester! :-(

It's so difficult to find one of the original robes and I read that you have a Hufflepuff robe and based on the date you posted your comment it sounds like you have one. Would you be willing to part for it for any price? To have another Hufflepuff robe like my first would mean the absolute world to me. Thank you so much. :-)

Hi, sorry, in my post I mentioned that I owned a Hufflepuff wool sweater. I never bought a robe because the color was off (although they’ve since changed the color to be more film-accurate). Sorry about that!
