How to rent out points

Hi there so we own multiple contracts (addonitis hit us over the years) not huge most are 50-60 pointers. Well we ended up purchasing a property in winter garden as a second home. So close the WDW. We are planning on keep some points as we still like staying in Disney hotels but won’t use all the points every year. We are just 2 people and even talked about doing 1 bedroom instead of studios but studios work great for us and I just can’t bring myself to spend the extra points for something we won’t use!
Before I can part with selling a contract thinking of renting out points for a year or so.
Probably would go thru a “rental company “ as I don’t want to (nor know how) to do it privately.
So do I make a reservation and then give it to the rental company?
As I’m not going to be using it do they guide you on best timeframe to make the reservation to rent?
Is there a better length? Like 4 nights or a week etc.

Any guidance here appreciated

We have used DVC Rental Store in the past and the process was very easy. You usually don't book a reservation first, you wait for someone to be looking for one, and then you book exactly what they need. They will send out a contract to both parties for signature and you will get a check prior to the rental and final payment after completion of the stay. Good Luck and welcome to WG!

a few years we rented points and it was so very easy especially since Im not with computers
I had a ton of questions and Davids was so great in answering all my questions
they guided me every step of the way so within 2 weeks I had all my questions answered and all 82 points rented to 2 different renters
I think Davids paid you 70% as soon as the renters sent in the money I cant remember how long the renters had to get the money in but then the other 30% they sent out when the renter checked in
even though there is a fee what we made basically paid for our fees for 2 years
so it really was a win-win since otherwise we would have lost the points

good luck

I had to rent out a few expiring points recently and used David’s. I wasn’t going to use them at all, but I had asked them a question about rentals and the response I got back was so thorough and helpful that it made me reconsider. I booked a confirmed reservation to get rid of my expiring points, it was quickly posted, and about two weeks later I had a renter. It was easier than I anticipated. No company is perfect but they clearly are on top of things there and seem to be good at considering the needs of both owners and renters.

Edit to add: the only part I don’t love is that they use PayPal and I dislike PayPal because they make it tough to get your money to your bank without dumb fees.

So happy to have a place in WG! Nice and close to the parks

We used David's twice after the Covid shutdown and were very happy with them. They were easy to use and I felt paid a fair value. No hassles. have not used DVC Rental, so can't compare. Hoping to not need either again.

We (as well as our daughter) rented points for the first time this year. We both had success using DVC Rental Store. You can either load your points and wait for them to contact you with a match. I believe you can have a confirmed reservation already that they will list it and try to rent out (I have never looked at those). Or you can look at their list of "wanted" reservations, "claim" a reservation (if your points can make that rental), they send you the information and you make the reservation. Both parties sign a contract. They send you 75% of the payment once you have sent them the Confirmation # (we had ours sent by check) and then they send you the remaining 25% once the persons check in date arrives and there are no issues. It was very easy.

I have used David's, but will not in the future. They only pay you through PayPal and that Is a deal breaker for me. PayPal retained and sent 24% of the funds to the IRS, and while not David's fault, I refuse to be paid through PayPal now.

Oh wow. They kept 24%.??
Is there a threshold or is that the standard.

Davids or DVCrentalstore.

Davids will withhold 24% and pay you through paypal (taxes) while DVC rental store will give you a 1099 and it'll hit your taxes that way.

I think David's prices are more consistent ($16 between 0-7 months and $18 between 7-11 months) while DVC rental store varies and may lower their rate seemingly randomly so you need to check your contract before you accept. Hope this helps.

I rented out points through David's and got paid through Paypal.

There was no withholding.

For timing purposes, the guests checked in, and I got my final payment, during January 2024.

The final payment was more than $600.

When we did thevtental
With David’s there was no withholding for taxes with PayPal. I thought I read at sometime Thst David’s doesn’t do anything with taxes since their in Canada. But things went so easy I’d for sure use them again. That is if we ever have extra points which doesn’t look like we ever will
