Hi

Just booked a new holiday for December this year and want to visit KBF for the day. we are staying at Candy Cane, don't drive and don't use Uber etc (we're from the UK and don't use it there either). I've seen there is a public bus that goes very close, wondered if anyone has used it? And would we be able to get a cab back when we finish-don't really want to be using buses in the dark!

You are going to have a LONG bus ride if you try to use that to get to Knott's. Candy Cane is closer to Disneyland rather than Knott's. If I were you, I would could hail a cab both directions so that you don't end up getting lost on the bus system.

Yes, we stayed at CCI last time we went to Disneyland too. We used the bus to get to Packing House last time and really enjoyed the ride-a chance to see outside the Disney bubble.

So if the bus is not a good idea, can anyone recommend a cab company? Is there an Anaheim equivalent of Mears in Florida-we used them to get round to other attractions on previous trips

Unfortunately, ART (Anaheim Regional/Resort Transit) seems to have discontinued any and all service to Buena Park. Back in 2022 amd 2023 I used ART a lot to get to/from Buena Park, where the three stops I recall were Knott's Berry Farm in front of the employment center (near the entrance), Beach in front of the former Movieland Wax Museum (across from Medieval Times), and on the street in front of Fairfield Inn on Orangethorpe.

There was no specific route to/from Buena Park back when I rode - only on-demand rides. And on-demand services may have been limited around peak Disneyland times (early morning and maybe 8 PM to close).

Metro 460 is OK, but it doesn't have frequent service (maybe every 40 minutes). The TAP fare card ($2 just for a physical card) is useful for pretty much every public transit agency in Los Angeles County, but you can get a virtual TAP card on certain mobile devices for free. And using a TAP card is the only means to get a day pass, which is now automatic through a daily fare cap. However, I think they always accept cash fares on the 460 bus. The other thing is that you can get real time info on bus location with either the TAP app or some navigation tools. I was able to get real time bus info from Apple Maps if I entered the destination. I would show me where the bus was at least every minute or so. I was very accurate and I could often wait and get to the bus stop maybe a couple of minutes before the bus arrived.

Orange County Transit Authority doesn't really have any good options for that route. But they do provide info on Metro route 460. This is just the first page of the previous link:

I've taken route 460 many times, including all the way to Los Angeles. I've seen a few things I can't unsee, but it wasn't so bad just between Anaheim and Buena Park.

Uber X is $20.62, I just checked.

The biggest problem would be the possibility of surge pricing - especially around holidays or weekends. Not sure about a taxi, because there aren't a whole lot of taxis in Orange County, but I'm sure a ride could be called in.

Honestly, the bus isn't that bad, but the service frequency starts going down late at night. Back after Christmas 2022 I was in the area and found that my Metro 7-day pass loaded to my TAP fare card was good on route 460 without a claimed 75 cents surcharge for "express" service. I kept on riding it, especially since there were several places in Buena Park I wanted to go to that ART didn't go, but route 460 did. Those surcharges don't exist any more. It's just a $1.75 fare or whatever daily/weekly fare cap hits.

As for the bus, they definitely take cash fares, but most people don't use cash now. But if you're only going to ride twice, it probably doesn't make sense to get the physical TAP fare card. But on the TAP app it might be worth it for the convenience of not having to use cash - just near-field communications on a compatible mobile phone.

Just because you don't use Uber at home doesn't mean you shouldn't on vacation.
I don't have it here where I live but ALWAYS use it on vacation.

You can get a cab but a ride share is so much easier. Just load the app on your phone and away you go. You'll be there in no time.
