How should a disturbing photo on Google Image be reported?

While searching for photos of a local landmark hotel on Google Images, I came across an extremely disturbing photo. It may have been something consensual between the person being photographed & the photographer but either way it looked, to me, very painful, abusive and horrible. I have no idea when this was taken, I didn't click on it. I feel that maybe I should report it but to who? Have you ever had an experience like this or know how it should be handled? Report it to Google, local police or ?

I don't know where it took place, it wasn't necessarily at the hotel which has been vacant for years because there were other photos in this search that had nothing to do with the hotel, just happened to be captioned with part of the name of the hotel.

If it really bothers you contact Google.

I guess I'd have to know just exactly what was in the picture. Honestly I have never thought to contact someone over something I found disturbing on the internet, because lets face it, people are into some weird stuff and it gets posted.

It's really hard to say without knowing what it is or the circumstances surrounding the picture. There are a lot of disturbing photos in Google images, crime scene photos etc....

Down at the very bottom of the Google Images page is an option to report offensive images.

I am going to speculate that a big part of the issue is that it comes up in a search..maybe when based on what it is, it should not show up.
(although OP you might need Safe Search on for that). So like if you search Fresh Beat Band you get a highly pornographic image that comes up and doesn't appear to be related or a valid result for that search.

I would be unlikely to report it however the option is there if you want it.

There is some weird stuff out there. Unless this involved kiddie porn or something illegal, I would refrain from reporting.

But then, I am totally against censorship, no matter how disturbing something may be to me personally. As long as it is legal, the photographer has a right to post it.

I learned my lesson googling Dick's Sporting Goods without the safe search feature turned on. :lmao:

As others have said, make sure you are on the safest search and you shouldn't run into this again.

Thanks for the info. I asked someone at work and found out about the safesearch and a way to contact Google. I know some people are into weird things but this particular photo seemed much more than that, although the woman could be very masochistic.

That's the thing, I don't know if what was happening is legal or if the person was being hurt or killed. I suppose I watch too many crime shows & movies. I'm not trying to censor but hoping that this person isn't a rapist or murderer. I know, I sound like an alarmist and who would post photos like that. But I've heard of people posting beatings & robberies they were involved with online. So who knows.

Wow, I do sound like I've gotten carried away but then I think of that photo and ugh, horrible.

Wow! Glad you found out what you needed.

I never knew that you could actually upload pictures on there until last night. This makes sense too because about a year or so ago my son was looking at google in the Magic Kingdom. He was going through the park and looking at pictures. He came to me and showed me a picture of someone flipping someone off on the Tomorrowland Speedway. This whole time I though it was some google satellite image that just happened to catch the guy doing that.:rotfl2: Turns out someone must have uploaded it.

Unless it's child pornography or some other way illegal, I doubt Google will do anything about it. Google Images basically indexes images available online. :confused3

Unless something changed very recently, users do not upload images to Google Images. Google Images indexes available pictures online, just like web searches.

There really isn't anything to do. I've googled some of the most harmless inane things and gotten back pictures that made me glad I was alone in the house! There have been crime scene photos, dead bodies, horrible horrible images all from the most innocuous searches. Then you get the porn hits. It's a zoo.

Your best bet is to do the safe search.

Google searches the Web for content based upon your request. Nothing is "on Google" Perhaps they can stop it from appearing in their searches, but they can't make it go away.

Well, last night while "touring" the magic Kingdom with my son it said "upload a picture". This was in some google maps or earth or something he was doing. I'm not sure if this is what the OP was doing when that image was found.

We clicked on some of the pictures and some were of families at MK in that area of where we were. For example on the Tea Cup ride, you could click and see a person on the tea cups.:confused3 As you went through different things would come up.

:lmao: Reading this thread, I kept thinking about the time that I googled the Philadelphia zoo while I was at work. I can't remember what I actually typed in there - national zoo? philly zoo? - but the results that I got made me :scared1: and I frantically grabbed the mouse to close the window. I was so worried that I went to our IT guy (small company) and told him what happened. :rolleyes1 I didn't want THAT to be accidentally found in my history during a routine update.

Google maps and google earth isn't the same as searching in Google images.

When you Google images it's just like Googling anything else. It searches the internet for images of what you type in. They aren't pictures taken by Google. Like if you Google your username the first picture that comes up is your avatar.

Google isn't going to do anything besides tell you what PP's all ready have. Turn on your filters. You surely aren't the first person to see this photo. And yes you watch WAAAAY too many crime shows.

Not many people know this but there are safe search levels in google.
Is it possible you have yours turned off? If it is turned off you will get...everything.

I know it's there, but I can see how people miss it. I never go to the Google Images page. I just type what I'm looking for on the main Google page and click on images.

:thumbsup2 +1

I rarely even go to google's site. Since I use chrome, the address bar is an automatic google search (unless you type in a complete address). :cool1:
