Hi..
I am planning some days at WDW but likely will have to work during the day.. how reliable the internet is at the rooms?
Also, do you know if it is possible to upgrade the internet at the room?
Thanks

Id say it's sketchy at best. Ive definitely had trouble even streaming a movie at several WDW resorts. Ive even had to turn off wifi and use my phone as a router to get better speeds before. Maybe with the lower crowds it will be better right now? No there is not a paid faster option like business hotels have.

Agree with everything Brett wrote above.

Internet service is MUCH better than it was a few years ago, but it’s still a bit inconsistent, especially in a room at a large resort like Pop. You might have a great signal, but it also might be spotty. I, too, often switch to my phone’s hotspot if I need to.

No upgrade option.

You might have better luck bringing your computer to one of the resorts with a dedicated business/convention area, like the Contemporary. There are lots of seating areas outside the meeting rooms that might work. Although right now there might also be restrictions about visiting and lingering at resorts.

I’ve stayed there several times and didn’t have any problems. I’ve done streaming there with no problem. Granted, I use the internet late at night after the parks close, but I think that would be similar to daytime when people are away. I think the rooms that are farthest out have a weaker signal though. One day I spent an afternoon logged into work, because the weather was too bad to go to the parks. I actually ended up going to the food court dining area because the atmosphere was more enlivening there than a hotel room.

The wifi can be inconsistent even within a hotel. When I was staying at Wilderness Lodge, I found that the WiFi inside the Whispering Canyon Cafe restaurant was significantly faster than the WiFi in my room or in the lobby, so I uploaded photos while I was eating lunch there.

In general, I find that first thing in the morning, the WiFi is faster than early evening.

Do you know which hotels have business areas?

^^ There was another thread on that subject recently. Unless you actually plug in for internet connectivity at the business center, you are still only using wifi. Not sure that accomplishes much. Wifi availability will vary based on capacity and how many others are using it and for what purpose at any point in time. You will have no way to know that ahead of time. Distance from the router(s) can also impact the signal strength.

My husband was unable to connect to his work’s VPN in our room on one trip when he had to work. He ended up working from the small business center off the lobby and could connect there.

We stay at OKW for 4 1/2 months at a stretch and if we ever have a problem (which is almost never) we call and it's taken care of unless the whole resort is down. I can count on one hand the amount of times we've had a problem in the last four years. They've gotten alot better.
