How long can you keep open liquor on a shelf?

I have two opened bottles on my counter that has been there for about a year and a half. LOL I won the bottle of Kahlua at a Christmas party and I bought a bottle of Creme de Menthe for a recipe.

I have opened both of them and there is probably still 2/3-3/4 of liquor still in them. Do you still think they're good or should I toss them?

I have no idea. I've never had an open bottle for more than about 2 or 3 months. When I need an odd liquor for a recipe, I buy the mini bottles, so there is not too much waste.

We have had bottles (open) for years on our liquor shelf. Still tastes fine to me :thumbsup2

My parents have liquor bottles that have been around since they were first married - over 50 years. :scared1: Not that they have been opened, but still.

As Mermaid02 said, I don't think liquor goes bad. Wine can, but it never lasts a week around me. ;)

for Kahlua and creme de menthe, if it is still liquid and looks normal, I believe it is still good. Last weekend I threw out a bottle of Kahlua - looked funky when I poured it and a bottle of creme de cocoa because it was thick - not liquid anymore. Those bottles had been in my cabinet for several years.

As other have said, liquor generally does not go bad. Remember, it's about 50% alcohol and not many bad things can grow there. I've had bottles for decades.

Nope what you listed are Liqueurs or cordials and they have sugar in them and they do go bad. Base liquors like vodka, gin, scotch are OK for like forever!

They should still be absolutely fine depending on how they have been stored the past year and a half. You will know when you look at it and taste it.

I recently had a bottle of sambuca that turned rancid.

So, use it up! ;):rotfl:

Generally they will keep for a very, very, long time. The only exception I'd note (and even it isn't usually a problem) is Irish cream.

On rare occasion, liqueurs that have sugars in them may go bad, but that's definitely the exception, not the norm. Creme de menthe is typically 30% ABV, and Kahlua is 20%. There isn't much of anything that can live in that environment to make your booze go bad.

I have a bottle of Kessler's Whiskey I opened 31 years ago. Seems fine, but I don't drink it. I use it like NyQuil anytime I have a cold. A shot before bed. Guess I haven't had a lot of colds in 31 years, I still have a couple of shots left in a 1 liter bottle.

Liqour doesn't stay opened and unused for very long in my house!:rotfl2:

Open liquor should keep for a while--the only exception is Bailey's and other cream/dairy based liqueurs. They go skunky fairly quickly once opened.

you need to look for the expiration date, they have it on there somewhere, Kahlua and Bailey's .
I always check mine...look carefully, it is on there! lol:)

I also keep mine in the frig.
