We are a Disney crazy family and love to go to WDW. We are looking to take a trip next summer (2012) for my DS's high school graduation. We were thinking of doing 4 days at WDW and 2 at US/IOA. I have been doing some reading and trying to learn as much as I can.

My question is what is the Spiderman ride like? They say the cars are like the Dinosaur ones at AK. Does it have hills like a roller coaster, spin in circles, or is it just kind of bumpy like Dinosauer? I know it is 3D.

Thanks, I know I will be back with many questions. Any advice is helpful.

It is similar to Dinosaur in the fact that the vehicles travel along a flat track but they also move in varying directions like a simulator vehicle.

Spiderman is second best ride I have ever experinced (and I have been on a TON of them!). The first is of course the amazing Harry Potter ride, but Spiderman is simply amazing.

Unlike Dinosaur at AK, Spiderman has ZERO hills within the building. Your car remains on a flat track the entire ride. The car will spin around in a circle a few times during the ride, but it is not a quick spin that will make you feel funny. The way I normally explain it, is imagine the Star Tours car on a flat track. Sure the car is smaller, but you get the same type of motion out of it (up, down, left, right, etc.). It also has a lot of special effects which is a big reason why this ride stands out as being one of the best in the world. There will be times where you get wet, will be close to fire, and see lots of smoke/steam.

As far as some other advice, since you will only be doing 2 nights at universal, I STRONGLY suggest staying at one of the on-site hotels. Your room key gives you front of the line access. Just show your room key at most of the rides, and you will be on the ride in about 5-10 minutes instead of waiting in a long line. During the summer, Spiderman can easily have a wait of over an hour, so getting on the ride so fast is a great perk and WELL worth the money.

Universal also does NOT have a fastpass system, so unless you stay on-site or purchase the express pass for the park, you will have to wait. It is not worth the money (normally) to purchase the express passes at the park. For example, if the express pass is $50 per person, and you are a family of four, you will be spending $200 JUST for the express pass. The hotel room might be $250. So, you can look at it as only paying $50 for a fancy resort. These hotels are like the Deluxe hotels at Disney.

Not sure why you're asking, but it made me really queasy. If you get motion sick easily, I would think about skipping it.

I get motion sick, too. I can handle Spider-Man and I agree that it is one not to miss unless you are really sensitive to motion.

Spider-man is a slow moving dark ride. The base of the vehicle remains on a fixed, flat track. The part you ride in does move around a lot: bumping, shaking, spinning, rising, and "falling." That part is often synced with 3D & simulation screens.

Here's a POV vid that may help (obvious ride spoilers)

I just wanted to add that Spiderman isn't anywhere nearly as bumpy as Dinosaur. You won't get that feeling that your teeth are about to rattle out of your head. ;)
