My bf and I will be going to a concert at Jones Beach on Long Island, NY at the end of the summer. I am looking for a decent hotel for two nights and need suggestions on hotels that are close to the Jones Beach Arena.

Also I am looking for suggestions on local attractions that may be open the weekend after Labor Day

Thanks!

How close are you looking? I am assuming you will have a car? To be honest Jones Beach Arena isn't close to any hotels at least as far as I know. There is just beach nearby. You would have to travel at least 15 minutes or so to reach a town and some towns here have motels (which I would never stay at). There are some nice hotels though but they would be a solid 30-45 minutes from the arena. Try looking in East Garden City. As long as it isn't a motel you should be good. See what you come up with and let us know. We can tell you if it is a dump or not. Good luck!

Be careful as colleges go back into session during that time. I know Hofstra where my DD goes, freshman are in the week before labor day and the others check in labor day weekend. They are about 10-15 minutes from Jones Beach in Hempstead. I know there are hotels all around there and the Nassau Coliseum is next door and there is a hotel there. I think it is a Marriott. Traffic is also crazy - especially during the week. What would take you a few minutes to get to at certain times of the day could end up 1/2 hour to an hour.

Thanks for the advice. I was hoping for a holiday inn or Marriott (stupid keyboard is not capitalizing letters). I was hoping for very close by as we most likely will be taking a taxi to and from the venue. I will probably head over to tripadvisor, but its difficult to gauge how far away the hotel will be from the venue using tripadvisor

there aren't any hotels that are really close by. The area isn't a tourist destination.

I would consider staying in Rockville Centre. It is a great little town with nice restaurants/bars. I know my 20-something niece and nephew often take the train there when they don't feel like going all the way to the city!
I don't have any personal recommendations, but check tripadvisor.

No matter where you book I would call a taxi company and ask the fare. Taxi's on LI are expensive! It is $18 for 2 to go 2 miles to the train station by me.

If you want to take public transportation you could take a train to the bus. Stay in Rockville Centre and take the train 2 stops east to Freeport. there will be a bus at the train station to the beach.

Have fun! We love going there for concerts!

The Jones Beach Arena is located at the end of Wantagh Parkway. It is situated right on the bay just across from the ocean. The arena is about 3 miles from the nearest town. I would suggest looking at the Ecnolodge in Hicksville, NY. It is located right next to the Wantagh Parkway and offers a low rate. It is about 10 Miles from the Arena and Taxi Service should not be a problem. More Hotels are located in Farmingdale, NY which is closer to the arena. They are the Courtyard by Marriot and some sort of Suite Hotel. The travel time to the Arena would be about 15 Minutes from there and there are plenty of restuarants nearby the Farmingdale Hotels.

Jones Beach is a collection of Beaches, which is one of the nicest complex's ever created. Where the arena is is serviced by Fields 4 and Fields 5 which offers a Snack Food Places, a Band Shell, Pitch and Putt Golf, Volleyball, Shuffleboard, and More. Most of this is closed after Labor Day, but the boardwalk remains open. In September is the feast of San Genero in Little Itlay ( a short train ride and Subway ride ) in lower manhattan. Some of the best eating can be had there during the week of the feast and it is one of the safest places due to some well connected people watching over the feast. A possible car trip to the Long Island North shore one can see the gold coast mansions of the Great Gatsby Era. The Old Westbury Botanical Gardens is one of these. Riverhead has a Oyster Festival or a Polish festival around this time. A trip to freeport where there are several Seafood places that serve fresh fish and Shell fish. That is located on the Woodcleff Canal.

Jones Beach is on a barrier beach. You drive on a somewhat long causeway (bridge) in order to get there. Its close a 10 mile drive before you get to a highway on the main land. I'm sure you can book a car service but this is the budget board. The better hotels and motels are further north.

Jones Beach doesn't have any hotels.

The only bus service will get you to Freeport (railroad station). That's really your best, really only, reasonable option without a car. You might need a taxi from the railroad station (bus stop) to one of the motels in Freeport. Check trip adviser. I don't know anything about those motels. You could take the LIRR to another town, or even NYC. At that hour trains may only run every 30.

My suggestion is to drive. How far are you willing drive after the concert? That answer will help us give you some ideas.

My second suggestion to look for any other venues where the group you want to see will be performing. You picked one of the worst venues for customers without a car.

This is nice info but there is no way I would ever stay at that econolodge.:scared1: Also, the only hotels I can think of in Farmingdale are lodges/motels. No way would I ever send anyone to stay at those either. Nohting with lodge or motel in the name here is anywhere you would want to stay unless you were in a hazmat suit.:laughing:I agree with the poster who mentioned RVC. You would have more to do but overall this isn't a vacation spot. I would consider a car rental. Cabs cost a fortune here. You would also have to find a cab company to call etc. They don't drive around like in the city. If I had to pick I would chose the Marriot in Uniondale next to Nassau Coliseum. Again- not much close by unless you have a car. Good luck!

OP, Are you driving to Long Island? I assumed you were, but just wanted to take a taxi so you could have an adult beverage or 3!
If that is the case, they don't sell beer at the concert unless you have a certain ticket or pay for VIP tent. People do, however, tailgate in the parking lot before hand.

I wouldn't stay in a motel or lodge type place either...too many disgusting ones that people live in! You really need to do your research on that one.

Hicksville is just too far away, IMO. I called a local taxi company and it is $45 each way plus tip for 2 people.

If you don't want to drive, your cheapest option is the bus from Freeport. There isn't anything around that train station, so you will need to get there to do so.

Trains only run east and west on Long Island.

It is a great place for a concert, just not for finding a hotel! Long Island doesn't have great public transportation, everyone drives!

I live in Bellmore, which is only a short drive from Jones Beach. I would recommend staying in either the Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express or Best Western in Rockville Centre (also sometimes spelled Rockville Center).

Alternatively, there's a newer Best Western in Massapequa that is nice as well.

While others have mentioned Freeport as an option on where to stay, I wouldn't recommend that area to people I don't like as portions of that neighborhood are rougher than the surrounding areas.

I would not recommend taking public transportation to Jones Beach.

OP asked for a Marriott. There is a Marriott in Uniondale near the Nassau Coliseum. It's right off Meadowbrook Parkway, an easy drive from the Theater.

There is a Red Roof Inn, Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden Inn and Hyatt Place near Roosevelt Field. Town would be Westbury or Garden City. Also not a bad drive. Might be a quicker drive, time wise not distance wise, then the hotels suggested in Rockville Centre.

I'm only suggesting Freeport as the only real option if the OP wants to take public transportation. A taxi, even from the Freeport train station, to the places suggested by the PP won't be cheap.

edited to add. Not sure if the OP has Holiday Inn points, there is a HI in Westbury (Old Country Rd).
