Help, looking to make some appietizers for Xmas eve, since church is at 5:30 pm. I really would love to make a hot shrimp and/or crab dip for the adults. My girls love little smokies and spinach/artichoke dip, which I have. Any good ideas would be great! Thanks in advance.

I don't have a recipe but I often go to the Food channel and look up recipes. Have had excellent luck with Paula Dean's and Tyler Florence's recipes. Paul's are extrenmely easy and yummy.

Here's my favorite

9 tablespoons mayonnaise
6 tablespoons hot mustard (I use Zatarans)
3 tablespoons french dressing
1 1/2 to 2 lbs boiled shrimp

Mix all together and serve cold

Yummy and very easy crab dip

Crabmeat (about 8 oz) I sometimes use more
Cream cheese, softened
3 tsp mayo
8-10 dashes Tabasco sauce (more or less depending on how hot you want it)
8-10 dashes Worschester sauce
paprika

Mix all ingredients and bake at 350 for 30 minutes.
I serve with bagel chips but any type of cracker or hot bread would be good.

I take this to many gatherings and it always goes fast!

4 block (8 oz)cream cheese
4 can crab drained and picked through
2 tsp dried minced onion
1 tsp old bay seasoning
1 tsp garlic powder
paprika to taste
combine in casserole , bake at 350º for 30 min or put in small crock pot to heat.
Tastes better the next day after the spices have had time to blend.

I make an awesome hot clam dip that everyone loves.

1 sleeve Ritz crackers crumbled

1 6 1/2 oz can minced clams w/ juice

1/2 stick melted butter

garlic powder

1/4 cup parm cheese

oregano

small chopped onion(I use 1/2)

Mix all together and bake at 350 for about a 1/2 hour. I serve with Ritz crackers and lemon wedges.

I might have to try one of these. They all sound good.

:thumbsup2

HOT CRAB AND SHRIMP DIP

1 PINT OF SOUR CREAM
1 8 OZ CREAM CHEESE (SOFTENED)
1 CUP SHREDDED WHITE CHEDDAR CHEESE
1 CUP OF SHREDDED MONTEREY JACK CHEESE
1 PACKAGE OF IMITATION CRAB APPROX. 16 OZ;
4 (4 OZ) PACKAGES OF FROZEN TINY SHRIMP, DEFROST AND SQUEEZE EXCESS WATER OUT OF SHRIMP
1 TBSP OF WORCESTSHIRE SAUCE
2 TBSP OF DIJON MUSTARD
ONE LARGE ROUND MARBLE BREAD

Mix all the dip ingredients together, place in a covered container and refrigerate for at least 3 hours or overnight.

Preheat oven to 375°F. Prepare bread for dip. Cut the top of the bread and place in plastic bag to prevent it from drying out and set aside. Make a bowl in the round by scooping out bread chunks from center. (Use gentle tearing because you will be using the bread chunks for presentation later) Place the chunks in the plastic bag to ensure freshness and set aside.

Fill the bread with the refrigerated crab and shrimp mixture. Cover the bread except for the top with foil. (this prevents the bread from getting dark during the extended baking time. Cook dip approximately 1 ½ hours or until hot, thick and bubbly. During the last 15 minutes of cooking time, place the bread top back on the bread and cook. Place hot crab dip in the center of a platter. Surround with reserved bread chunks or crackers.

This sounds really good, but if you can I recommend buying some real crab meat. Imitation is just not the same. Also, regular old yellow sharp cheddar will work too.

8 oz cream cheese
8 oz miracle whip
block of white cheddar cheese: shredded
can of crab meant
minced onion

mix all together with half of cheese, put other half of cheese on top, bake until hot and cheese melts HEAVEN!!!

P.S. I usually leave the cream cheese out to get soft or put it in the microwave for a few minutes

We do one with 2 cans crab meat, 2 blocks of cream cheese, scallions, tobasco, salt and pepper. I like to bake it in the oven until bubbly, but you can also microwave it.

If you are serving it to a crowd, you might want to put a little sign on it to let people know there is seafood in it. I brought it to a party one time and didn't even think to do that. Someone who is allergic to shellfish took some!!

ETA - I also use this recipe to make the filling for crab rangoons. Take a small scoop of filling and place it in the middle of a wonton wrapper. Fold up the wrapper into a triangle and seal all three sides with a dab of water. Fry until golden brown.

Old Bay is a spice- Comes in a TIN!

I cheated and bought the Crab dip from wegman's.

What's Old Bay?

:scared1: It's a crab seasoning. In MD, "picking" crabs in a summer pastime...basically a good excuse to drink beer and sit around with family while eating steamed MD blue crabs. Anyway, the crabs are literally loaded with Old Bay. It gives crab dip a great flavor.
