We're having some gnarly weather on the west coast, particularly the Pacific Northwest. I hope this hasn't hurt anyone's DLR vacation plans! How is it in your area? I'm north of Sacramento and we're getting some raging winds and lots of rain but we're not getting the brunt of this storm.

I'm west of you closer to the coast and it has been crazy. Pouring rains with winds. localized flooding.

This has been me think maybe I need to plan for rain during our trip is less than 3 week and maybe to be prepared for rain. Buy/bring a long rain slicker, waterproof shoe covers, a new/better umbrella, etc. I could order things from Amazon and then return them if I don't end up needing/using them.

Down in Orange County, we currently have bright sunshine. We are looking at rain maybe starting Saturday. But we will not be getting that bomb cyclone (as the weather person called it this AM on Today in LA) in any meaningful way compared to those of you up north.

Our best visit was pouring down rain mid-January. Rides and character meets were walk-ons. Was able to remain seated and ride rides again due to no lines. Warm soup and hot chocolate hit the spot. It was so much fun.

We had a great visit one year in the rain about 20 years ago. What I enjoyed in my 30's I am not so sure I will enjoy in my 50's.

Pretty darn beautiful here in OC today. I see a little bit of a chance of rain next week, but nothing crazy. Some of my best Parks days have been in the rain. Scares off the locals. Puddle jumping on Main Street is the best!

I hear ya! I don't mind some rain at DLR, but POURING rain is another thing. When it closes down the restaurants and shops because water is coming out of the ceiling lights, that's too much (and yes, that happened to me once). I don't like riding rides when everything is sopping wet, either. I do not have the advantage of youth on my side where I can just take things like that in stride. I'm in the age zone of choosing comfort over excitement, which is to say I'm old :D

It's really coming down at my house. I love the rain, but I also live where 2 creeks meet up behind my house, so I'm keeping a weather eye out (nod to Pirates).

You're not old, Dizme! You are the energizer bunny of the DLR! Hope you have a great trip in Dec.

Well, my backyard is pretty waterlogged! We've had a very hard, steady rain today and the creeks I mentioned earlier that meet behind our house have swollen quite a lot! Plenty of rushing water going past. We have a heron that lives nearby and he/she has been fun to watch today, slowly walking up and down the creek. We also had a few ducks and some wild turkeys (who avoid the water and run the other way), so the storm definitely brought out the big birds. It looks a little spooky but we've seen much worse, and the water has alwasy been pretty quick to drop back down once the rain lets up.

Good to hear, Diz! Hope water goes down soon.
My friend in Santa Rosa had twelve inches at her house and is building an ark 🤣 Not funny really but up to this point, she had been fixated on fire season! At least thats over. Hope you recoup and that all goes well with your mom so you and Sis can have a great trip!

Thanks, Tink! Yeah, 12" would be a little anxiety-inducing! I don't know how much we've gotten but I took some pictures I'll post. I hope the weather cooperates when we go to Mom's! I really don't like that drive as it is. I have to drive up to Redding and go over 299 to Eureka. Never fun in this kind of weather.

Here are some pics of the backyard area. You can see that the little creek deck gets completely covered! There's some progression as the water kept rising. I included the heron :)

Eeeps, you must have been worried when the deck furniture started going under...

Beautiful bird.

Well, at least you're headed toward the coast and not the snow! That looked awful, especially so early in the year! But those narrow roads through wine country can be harrowing...I was very nervous when touring around with my friend.

I did love the heron! And your creekside deck looks inviting, minus the risingwater. Looks like a lovely place to while away a summer afternoon.

Thanks! We've lived here 24 years. And you're right about the snow! I prefer rain (unless it's torrential).

We got a sudden GIANT burst last night. DH was on the way home from picking up our DD from the Sacramento airport and said it was a pretty gnarly drive. When they got here, we looked out the back window with a flashlight and saw this!

Ohh! We’re getting some light misty rain in So OC! Feeling very seasonal! ☔🦃 🎄

Oh really?! That's such a neat feeling :) Rain makes me feel seasonal as well.

When I was a kid, I lived in Ventura and I used to love the rare occasions when it rained! I always thought it was so special. Our back lawn would flood and my dad would put a big wooden box out on it with a board from the box to a short retaining wall. My sister and I would play pirates and take turns walking the plank :D

I still love the rain. I do prefer something below extreme levels, though.

Light rain started before 2 on Saturday at Disneyland. We went on Matterhorn in the light rain, then Space Mountain. As we started making our way from Tomorrowland to the exit around 2:40 I realized they weren’t directing the flow of traffic on Main Street. We saw a lot of empty curb spots, and heart a cast member ask people to clear off Main Street as she had a parade coming, but then I heard the announcement for the cavalcade they run when they cancel the parade. The rain was significant enough that an umbrella was appreciated, and we saw a lot of people in rain ponchos. We didn’t leave early because of the rain, there was more traffic than usual and we needed to get to the doggie daycare before they closed. But it did seem that more people were heading out of the park than usual for that time on a Saturday, probably to head back to hotels, or just go home if they were locals.
