DD just announced that her teenage friends want to be crayons for halloween - does anyone have any ideas, photos, websites, etc.. for how-to directions?
Three friends and I were crayons our senior year of HS (20 years ago - GAH!) My mom made the costumes from a VERY simple Simplicity pattern. I don't have a picture handy (need to ransack my parent's house!) but they were basically made of light-weight canvas (so they would be stiff enough to stand up but not so stiff that we couldn't sit down. The pattern called for felt, which I remember my mom saying it would have cost way too much money for all that felt and it would be too flimsy. Anyway - it was was basically a wide tube that was sewn up the back and then had shoulder straps. The hat was just a cone. We wore black tights and black turtle-necks and the crayon decoration was made of felt (that's why my mom actually got the pattern - for the cut-outs of the waves and letters!) It was long - went down below our knees a bit.
It was simple and a big hit. We made the yearbook! hee heeee
In a pinch, I would think matching, solid color sweats would work for the body, with something on the front of the sweatshirt that says Crayloa or something. I would think a cone shaped had would make a good tip.
My roommates and I decided that we did not want to be a store bought regular costume. We bought black felt fabric and the specific colors we wanted from the local fabric store and picked up the felt and Velcro.
We also printed out the name CRAYOLA from a website and used it as a stencil for our Crayola crayons costume. Needless to say it was a huge hit!
My dd was a pink crayon a few years ago. My mom sewed the crayon part using felt and coping an actual crayon. It was just 2 panels with straps that hung over her shoulders. She wore pink sweats underneath. We used a witch's hat and spray painted it pink for the tip of the crayon.
