Yes, seriously, I just saw it on Amazon; I was looking at some other Disney movies, and it popped up as a suggestion! However, I note that the cover -- while bearing images I remember from seeing the movie as a child -- doesn't say Walt Disney anywhere on the cover.

Shocking, huh? I predict it'll disappear by this time tomorrow -- probably before the seller can send out his bootleg copies.

The rumor years ago was something like the bootleg DVDs are copied from Japanese laserdiscs from the 90s. They used to be all over ebay too.

No so sure. There is a vendor at the California State Fair every year that has stacks of Song of the South DVDs. And the State Fair Police do check for bootleg and counterfeit items and this guy never gets shut down.

The only thing I could find is something that's been up for over a month. If I were to guess there were no particular complaints yet. However, all it would take is one complaint - whether from Disney or someone else - before it gets taken down.

I have seen a gray market Japanese subtitled LaserDisc copy of Song of the South sold at a specialty video store in the 90s. It was really expensive. Maybe $200.

I'm pretty sure it's still sold overseas.

It would be considered out of print. There has never been an official US video release. The last official release anywhere was the Japanese LD.

i paid $19.99 for a STUNNING deluxe edition dvd (works in u.s. region players) in recent months. original english packaging artwork as well as reproduced original u.s. movie lobby card included. i was amazed at the video and sound quality.

Bought a copy, bootleg or not, on VHS years ago and had it digit-ised. Actually quite a good movie. And compared to some of Disney's other films, it's not that controversial

When I hear about someone like that, I wonder if it is someone who heard it was going out of circulation and they thought they would make a lot of money buying every copy they could get and reselling them later. That doesn’t always work the way people think it will . . .
