Here is one from when I was a kid

"down by the river where the green grass grows there sat ________ pretty as a rose, along came _______, kissed her on the cheek, how many kisses did she get that week?"[count]

Well, here is what my 7yo 2nd grader was belting out in the car today...I don't think she has any idea of what she is singing, it still is a bit much. What happen to husband????

"Fudge, fudge, call a judge! _______ is having a baby, her boyfriend's going crazy! How many babies did she have?"[count]

:faint:

I remember:
Strawberry Shortcake cream on top tell me the name of your sweethart:
Is it a,b,c d etc. :wave2:

Cinderella dressed in yella
went upstairs to kiss a fella
made a mistake and kissed a snake
how many doctors did it take? (count)

As for today's version :earseek: they sure have come a long way

I remember it as

fudge, fudge, call the judge
Momma's got a newborn baby
wrap him up iin tissue paper
send him down the elevator
first floor STOP (turners stop turning)
second floor DOWN (jumper goes down)
third floor turn around
fourth floor touch the ground
fifth floor get out of town
(next person gets a turn)

Oh gosh, it's been almost thirty years! Let's just say I did a LOT of jump roping as a kid.

YIKES!!! I have a dd7 also, I think I would freak out if she said was saying that.

Bubble gum, [jump]
bubble gum [jump]
in a dish, [jump]
How many pieces [jump]
do [jump]
you [jump]
wish, [jump]
[count]

And eek! to the 7 year old one.

OMG! I cannot believe you remember those! The only one that I vaguely remembered was the bubble gum one.

On a side note to this does anyone remember "Say Say Oh Playmate"?
I keep trying to remember the hand sequence and I keep screwing up. I want to teach my dd.

I'm 52 and remember Poohnatic's version - so it ain't something new! :rotfl:

I betcha your DD's playmates have been jumping rope with their grandma or great-grandma... :rotfl2:

Hey, Maciec! My mom used to sing "Say, Say, Oh Playmate" to me. I try to remember all the words but don't think I have it right. I just found it in a book that I ordered for my daughter. It has all the hand motions too. Of course I'm giving it to her for Christmas so I haven't looked at it yet! It is from the Kindermusik program--their new independent consulant type business called Do-Re-Me-You. They have very nice musical games, activities, music, etc. for all ages. I can give you the email of a consultant if youwant. It is not widely popular yet. You can find info on the Kindermusik website too. The CD/book I got her is something about Rhythm. Can't remember exactly what it is called.

I hope all this priceless stuff gets somewhere archived as "Americana" because I don't know that anyone else is writing it down.

I went to catholic school in the mid eighties and we used to jump rope in the yard. We always sang Fudge, Fudge call the judge .___ having a baby. Etc. We never thought anything of it and the nuns never cared either.

This was my favorite...

"My mother and your mother were hanging out clothes. Your mother punched my mother right in the nose. What color was the blood?"[name colors]

I guess physical violence was no big deal either! LOL So, fugde, fudge is over 50 years old AND it was sung at a Catholic School?? WOW! LOL

I was trying NOT to freak, and act normal, because I know she has no idea what she is singing. If I showed concern, she would want to know why, and then I would have to explain it.

DD6 loves this! Of course, we say:

CeCe (SeeSee) my playmate,
Come out and play with me,
and bring your dolly three,
climb up my apple tree,
slide down my rain barrel,
into my cellar door,
and we'll be jolly friends
forever more, one, two, three, four.

I still know all the hand motions too if you want to come by, I'll teach you! :rotfl:

Oh, this was the one we always sang. That and something else which is hanging at the edge of my memory...I want to say there was a fire engine in it, but I'm not sure.

We did the "Fudge Fudge" one, too. That was mid 80's.

How about "foot in the fire" -

"Inka Binka bottle of ink,
cork fell out and you stink.
Not because you're dirty,
not because you're clean.
Just because you kissed a (boy/girl)
behind the magazine.
And you are NOT it".

"Mabel, Mabel set the table.
Just as fast as you are able.
Don't forget the knives, forks,
spoons, salt, pepper, (etc, etc)
and don't forget the
RED HOT PEPPERS!"
(shout the above and jump as fast as you can) :)

All these little jump rope jingles plus hand clapping games are on the "Wee Sing and Play" CD. It comes with a book that teaches you the games. Americana is being preserved. :flower:

Ours went like this (early 70's):

Not last night, but the night before,
24 Robbers came knocking at my door,
As I ran out (Run out)
They ran in (Run back in and start jumping again)
And hit me on the head with a bowling pin.

I asked them what they wanted and this is what they said:
Spanish dancers turn around (turn around while jumping)
Spanish dancers touch the ground (touch ground with hand)
Spanish dancers do the splits ("splits" as best you can while on both feet)
Spanish dancers jump out like this (jump out).

My 8yo dd and her friends all do the "Cinderella dressed in yella" one already mentioned.

clim up the apple tree
slide down the rainspount
and into the cellar door
and we'll be jolly friends
forever more, more, shut the door
