Help!!! I need a Gypsy/Cricut Guru!!!!! Update in post #8

I was syncing my Gypsy today (for over 3 hours) when it totally froze. The computer told me to disconnect and try again because the sync software had frozen. I did that, but, the computer now says it recognizes the gypsy but cannot comunicate with it My gypsy is completely frozen--I can't get it to turn off or anything. The screen just says do not disconnect, etc....
I can't call provo craft (they are closed for the night). Any suggestions?

take your stylus, unscrew the top part off ... you see a needle-like prong when the top is off. Using that prong, gently poke it into the tiny hole on the back of your Gypsy. This will reset it (un-freeze it). BTW, you will not loose any of the information stored in your Gypsy, all linked carts, pics, and saved files will still be there.

Didn't work It turns on and I can see the tools and the pictures, but, it won't load the cricut stuff. So I'll call first thing in the morning.

Please keep us posted. My Gypsy kicked off almost 2 hours into the update yesterday. I gave up.

So basically after spending almost 2 hours on the phone with different tech support people this is what they think happened. Provo Craft says that their software isn't compatible with most anti-virus software. So BEFORE you try to sync or do any type of update you need to turn your anti-virus protection OFF. My McAfee din't like the sync update and it froze therefore "scrambling" my gypsy.

I had to "restore and format" my gypsy, but, I had to try 3 times before it actually worked. So my gypsy is updated and all my carts are still linked

Lesson to remember--turn off my anti-virus software before syncing

Glad you got it all figured out.. did you put a post-it note by the computer and on the back of the gypsy so you don't forget????
