I am at a total loss...last time I did FE exchanges, everyone was either adults or kids...this time we have a bunch of teenagers (5 boys and 3 girls).

Anyone have good ideas of what to give? I like to give things that people aren't going to just throw in the trash.

Thanks!!

we're in the same situation, i'm at a loss! I think the girls are easier than the boys. We have several in the 18-21 range too. so difficult!

Girls I think I could work, because I could do journals or an album or something...but I am TOTALLY lost with the boys...HELP

That's easy!!! Candy or chocolate. :) You can personalize it by printing stickers to wrap around the bars.

I'm thinking snacks/candy? I have some to buy for too, and I've read that the movie-sized boxes of candy are popular gifts. Still trying to think of something else to put with them, though. ;)

Maybe I try to get too cutsie, I could do candy. I was hoping to be able to do it before we left home, but since we are flying from Minneapolis to Seattle and then getting to Vancouver a few days later, I will have to shop somewhere to get things.

If anyone is on the Alaska cruises, do you know if you can ship your FE things to the port like you can do in Canaveral?

I haven't seen an address posted yet but maybe you can ship it to the hotel you are staying at in Seattle. That would be easier and less expensive than shipping it to where you are staying in Vancouver.

that isn't a bad idea...I don't even mind shipping it to Vancouver...I guess I will have to call the hotels. I always just worry that the packages would get lost.

pens and pencils, even if the boys won't use them the parents will.

Candy (who doesn't want candy)
stuff to wear on pirate night - tattoo or eye patches
Coffee (if you feel they are coffee drinking age)

Depending on how much you are spending per kid. I just purchased one of those little nerf vortex footballs for my 8yr and older boys. They were $2.34 each, I am just going to eliminate the little extra trinkets the little kids get and the price per kid is about the same.

I thought they would get a kick of of them on the beach, as a family we have one and my DD4 and DD8 love playing with it.

This link is not best price, but a picture.

We had too much candy in our FE's and I am most guilty. :guilty: For the older boys, I gave:

frisbees
water balls
drink coozies (can either customize or find pirate, sports, camo)
miniature football

May i ask what do you mean with FE exchanges? I have totally no idea :S

Chapstick is always a hit! Also, playing cards, trivia cards, travel games, key chains, mini flashlights, gum, mints, state quarters from the state you are from. Just some ideas I had.

I'd avoid gum and chewy candy for the teens as that is the typical age for braces.

Our son who is 13 received some much needed sunglasses. Candy and some other smaller stuff like pens, trading pins, and stickers, but he liked the sunglasses the best.

He forgot his and had to use my spare pair from the car, till those showed up.

sunglasses are an awesome idea!

As a transplanted Canadian now residing in the heart of Texas :lovestruc, I have to say that Canadian chocolate is sooooooo good!!! It is the one thing I really miss from there. If you are doing candy, I would wait and buy chocolate bars in Vancouver. Aero Bars, Smarties (they are chocolate up there), Crunchie Bars...the list goes on. My mom sends my dd and ds chocolate from Canada all the time. By the time it sits in a Texas mail box it is a melted mess and my kids still squee with delight

Have fun and be sure to get a couple for yourself,

Hi and welcome to the DISBoards!

An FE exchange is a gift exchange that folks here on the DISBoards do with each other on their cruises. The FE stands for Fish Extender. On the Magic and the Wonder their are brass fish which are in front of every cabin that the cruiseline uses to give you messages, etc. Folks make pockets to hang from their "Fish" to allow the gifts to be left easily.

Think of it like trick or treating without the trick or secret santa without the secret (since it seems that a lot of folks sign their gifts - which I think is a very good idea so I will know who to thank for what :-).

If you have already booked a cruise check out the Cruise Meets thread at the top of the page and find the thread for your group so that you can join the fun.

For the OP... As for what to give teen boys, I am in the same boat... literally :rotfl: since we are on the same sail date as you know. I am struggling as well, because folks can be all over the map regarding their interests and what they think is "cool". I have heard that some folks give arcade cards but I don't know how much that would cost and that really isn't a keepable gift.

I like the sunglasses idea (you can sometimes find them at the 99 cent store or even Big Lots for a decent price). Hmm, what about something from Minnesota? What is your area know for - I confess that the only thing that springs to mind for me is the Minnesota Vikings football team but I am pretty ignorant about areas I don't reside in.

Ooooo... I just got an idea... What about a cool keychain from your home area for those kids who are 15 and up since most of them are chaffing at the bit to be able to drive.

Oh, and I can personally vouch for Aero Bars and Crunchies as well. Years ago I used to manage a British Imports store and I managed to get addicted to them. They are really yummy and we don't really have anything comparable here in the States.

I shall now return this thread to its rightful owner...

Take care all, help lots of people and have a "Wonder"ful day!
