over this weekend my husband and i attended a FamilyLife Weekend to Remember conference. it's a Christian marriage conference. my parents went a few years ago and they recommended that before anthony and i got married, that we attend one of these conferences. well, things happen and plans change, so we didn't get to go before we got married. he went to Iraq for a year and we kind of got married in a hurry. not because i wanted to collect the insurance or anything like that, but my thought was that if anything happened to him while he was over there, i'd never get to be Mrs. Reynolds. but he's back now and he returned to me just fine, thanks to many MANY prayers from he and i and our family. well anyway, we finally got the chance to go to one of these Weekend to Remember conferences. OMG! it was such a life changer. it was great to be surrounded my so many Christian couples who ALL have marriage troubles.
i thought that our marriage was good, but when we arrived at the conference i started to feel a kind of emptiness, i knew it was there all along, but as we got there, it seemed to surface more. after the second night, i did a lot of praying and soul searching throughout the lessons. my husband went out to take our bags from the hotel room to the car. while he was gone i did a lot of praying. realizing that we needed God in the center of our marriage, i gave up my marriage to Him.
the next day i felt so different. i felt somehow closer to my husband. i talked to him about it and he said that the night before, when he came back from the car, he noticed that there was some kind of major change in me. he couldn't tell what it was but he knew that it was big.
we just got back from the conference tonight and just in this one day, i've felt so much closer to both my husband, and my Lord. it was absolutely amazing how the lessons in this conference help you to see areas in your marriage that need prayer. some that i had never even thought to ask for prayer in.
i am so thankful for this conference! my husband has become more spiritual over this weekend than i had hoped. i was always a little sad that he was not as strong a Christian, since the husband is to be the spiritual leader of a household. but after the lesson that they had just for the men, i've noticed a significant change in him as well.
anyway, i was just so happy since we got back that i wanted to share with everyone the joy that is overflowing from my life right now, from just one weekend! i would strongly encourage every married or engaged, or anyone thinking of marriage at all, to attend one of these conferences. it can do absolute wonders if you are open to it, even when you don't think anything is wrong with your marriage. if you've already attended one of these, i'd love to hear your stories! thanks for listening everyone!
