Hall of president solution

The concern isn't the people that would avoid it - the concern is the people that would go in with the express purpose of disturbing the show and making a scene and what that could lead to

That is a valid concern, case in point my family will not attending a Night of Lights in St Augustine this weekend for Holiday lights due to a planned BLM and Antifa Rally to disrupt it to oppose a Civil War Memorial. I would hate to see something like that at Disney, however generally Disney brings out the best in people.

The challenge is what if you stand up to them and they don't back down... what if the physically push you, push the CMs? What if supporters of Trump then get involved and now you have a giant mess.

Not saying it is likely to happen but based on what has happened at other rally's and protests it is a greater than zero chance

And I could see some people paying the $100 just to cause a stir and draw attention to them and heir cause and see it money well spent

Again, not likely but Disney needs to be prepared / concerned as it only takes 1

That's a lot of what ifs and unknowns. Yes Disney needs to be prepared but they need to be ready to punish the disruptive people not those of us who want to enjoy the show.

I just don't think people are going to pay that much money to be kicked out of a park.

Maybe just because there are protest in my area all the time I just assume there will be some everywhere ... but people are already actively booing the recent presidents in the prior version of HoP - and things are much more on edge now

And people would definitely be willing to pay that $ and there are groups that will pay there way for them if they want to make a point

- I have been during the last Presidency and have never heard any booing or disrespect, only snoring.
- No issue in hearing the program because there was never more than a couple dozen folks in the huge theater.
- You confronting other guests will put you in the same category as they will be in ... in Disney eyes.
- Are you prepared for your children to see you escorted and banned from the park?
- Most guests will never confront rude guests, at most will get up and leave. Why ruin their own vacation?
- Last thing Disney wants to do is escort groups of guests out of the park every hour. Talk about PR nightmare.
- GUARANTEE there will be plenty of NON-DISNEY fans paying $100 just to protest OR cheer - either way, disrupt the show.
- It's a private business, it's a theme park and Disney can do whatever they want and I personally think not opening it right now is their best business move.

I disagree. There's a huge difference between someone standing up yelling, booing, etc vs me asking them to be quiet. They are not going to ban someone for trying to make peace. I'm also mature enough to know when to back off and turn it over to the authorities. A PR nightmare would be them allowing such rude behavior. The fact that most guests won't confront rude people is only going to make the problem worse. It only takes a few times of people being kicked out to make it stop. Once Disney makes it clear that they do not tolerate such disrespect, people will get the picture. But if they do nothing then they are allowing it. The Disboards is the only place I've heard anything about the HoP. I don't think non-Disney fans even know it exists. I certainly didn't before I actually went to the park. Sure it's a private business and they can do whatever they want. Doesn't make it the right call for their many fans who do enjoy the show. It frustrates me when people make decisions based on the minority of opinions instead of the majority.

Bottom line - everything about this discussion is based off possibilities and unknowns. Only time will tell. I just hate the thought of not getting to see this attraction because of a bunch of "possible" rude people.

Big difference between public property and private property. They will be handled completely different from start to finish. That said, opening of Night of Lights is a nightmare in it's own rights so if those groups even manage to get there, I don't think they'll make any impact and their message would be lost. The city is actively working on the "issue" and their energies would be better placed joining the solution.

If you plan to stand up and address this yourself .... you will then be park of the disruption. Each of you on different sides. Disney won't want to do a he said/she said and will likely ask you all to leave. With phones/cameras, very good chance you'll end up on youtube as well. Will it be worth it? Wouldn't be for me, it's a theme park show with robots that I paid nothing extra for. If the show is disrupted by either side, I'll just leave ... or go back to sleep.

Disney allows rude behavior every day those parks are open, they allow guests to be verbally abusive to their employees and to other guests. The plus of HOP is all that behavior will be contained within the building among a small audience. Unless fists start flying .... doubtful anything will happen. Unless security is standing in there ..... CMs will do their best to not intervene and count the minutes until the show is over. Someone booing a robot or cheering to extreme is no different than flash photography on dark rides. One guest ruined another guest experience. Unless something injurious happens (which may happen if one guest engages another) Disney will turn a def ear. It is how they handle this stuff.

We agree on one thing, only time will tell. The "right call" is what is right for Disney long term, not the guests. But if you don't see it, it won't be because of some rude people, it will because Disney has decided that carrying this attraction like they have for years is simply not worth it - for reasons of their own.

It's incredibly difficult to single out and punish the booers. It's not like they stand, jump up and down and scream at the animatronics. They sit in the anonymous dark and vocalize (boo, clap and cheer). Even if you could determine who the person is, what do you expect Disney to do with them? Throw them out of the park for booing at/cheering for at a fake Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Obama or Trump?

True public vs private property is completely different. As you pointed out it is a mad house and I take the family because they want to go, it's just my wife and mom so they can enjoy the lights and get into the spirit. I will not be going because it would only take 1 person stepping up to my mom or wife for any reason and I drop any sense of civility, I like to avoid that possibility. I by far trust Disney to have this under control. I agree Disney will do what they "feel" is best for business even if it is the same as "the big red switch" in PoC.

I think I am going to go down and chain myself to the HoP doors and demand they reopen it before I leave. Old school protest all the way!

Might want to pack your pjs.

They do, they are keeping it closed for now.

This thread is fascinating in revealing the two different camps of:

"I won't watch this because I object"

versus

"You can't watch this because I object"

Haha you are right and the that why I am here. Persiannly I won't loose any sleep whatever they do because it does not effect me one bit. That said I love a good discussion just to see gets all crazy. Meh its not important but its what I do.

Now I have to come up with a good chant for when the media is present

Make it rhyme so that it will be catchy! :thumbsup2

I think that is the same thing???

And I disagree even if you can make it work as opposing views. The opposing views are the extremes.

I think the biggest segment here ..... would be okay if it left as long as it is replaced with a really good attraction, with E Ticket value.

The HM restaurant would be very popular but I think most of us see it as good location good timing ... but they could put it anywhere and we'd be happy.

I think you hit the perverbial nail on the head. The opposing views of those yelling are extreme. Most are in the middle watching and just want something to open. I for one would ok if it changed to JUST the founders and moved to the American pavilion at Epcot, either way I am happy. Can't we just all get along?

To answer your only question ... no.

How about we take a hint from SeaWorld and show the public ONLY what it wants to see? Like with VR headsets! Where did you think I was going with that.... LOL

Make your FP+ selection, select "Historical" program or "Historically-Sensitive" program, sit down, put on your VR headset, and be quiet for the next 15 minutes...

I love this solution, if I thought it were only that simple. Alas.
