The title says it all ;)

I honestly hate all those goodie bags with the 'icky' toys and stuff in them. My daughter will be 10 - having mixture of boys and girls for a bowling party.

I already purchased some journals for the girls...
At this age, I hate putting all candy in.

Suggestions?

10 seems old for a goodie bag. I wouldn't do anything.

Hmmm .. having a bowling party - do I not give anything when they leave ... seems sorta rude. :)

My youngest is 9-soon to be 10. He just went to a party for his friend who turned 10, mixed group boys and girls. The goody bags had fake mustaches that you stick on. The kids loved them. The mom had them all put on their mustaches and take a group picture. It was really funny.

Why do you think it's rude? I am just outside the city in CT (not too different from LI) and lots of families are phasing them out. As a parent of a partygoer I am thrilled when my kid doesn't come home with candy and more junk.

If you don't stop at age 10, when did you think you would stop? Keep going forever?

I am not including Bar Mitzvahs in this - just birthdays.

I just feel funny.. but maybe its about time we do away with it - this is her last party at 10.... They seem to all be having their last ones at 9-10. All her friends, etc.

They always give goodie bags that's why I was thinking..

I'd rather spend the 20 bux and buy a nice water bottles or something they can use - not just candy and junk.. this is what i'm trying to do away with:)

They are getting a ticket for a free bowling game too which was included in her party package.

I usually buy things that go with the theme of the party.

Bowling is a little tough, though!

For 10 year olds (and not considering theme):

smencil (Meijer has some for $1.11 each right now)
some kind of goo
rubber bouncy ball
fake mustache
vampire teeth
pack of garbage pail kids cards

I agree with you - I personally hate the junk and the junk candy too!

I just know they still give them out here..

Smencils .. good idea ... I'm not putting candy in ... they are getting the bowling certificate/card for a free game - girls i bought nail files to match a journal - Michaels had them for 50c each last week.

My son just received a goody bag with a mini whoopee cushion. He and his buddies loved. Me, not so much.....

Those finger lights are pretty popular here and you can get them at dollar tree for five for a dollar. Usually a couple don't work, but still not a bad price.

Something else that has become pretty popular is origami. You could print out instructions for something easy and then give a few pieces of paper. Or you coudl print out instructions on how to make a ring out of a dollar bill and put a dollar with it.

My daughter just went to a 10th birthday party and the kids (boys and girls) all received the same things, a re usable water bottle with pop rocks attached.

Other ideas are, glow sticks, bottle of water, capri sun or sunny delight and a bag of pretzels, microwave popcorn or Peppridge Farm fish or something like that.
