...like me, where have you been booking during the renovations? We have only ever stayed at the CCI or the Grand. Those are our two favorite hotels. I've been priced out of the Grand, so now what? Looking for recommendations. It's been about 4 years since our last visit. CCI just checks every box for us, so I'm having a hard time choosing.

I was disappointed in not being able to book the CCI as well, that is where we have stayed for past trips as well. I had called their reservation department a few weeks back and they said they really couldn't say if they would be open for our August trip so I knew I would have to book somewhere else. I seriously considered spulrging on the DLH but with the lack of perks staying onsite and the exchange rate our Canadian $ it was too high a price to pay for a little more magic for the week. I ended up finding a great deal on a 1 bedroom Queen suite at the Element Anaheim. It is a bit of a farther walk but it's very fresh and new and seems to have a great breakfast but doesn't offer free parking like the CCI.

I was planning on Candy Cane for this trip but since they're closed we're at Hojo. They don't have breakfast, but I really like the grounds and pool. We are possibly doing a split stay with Grand Californian if there's a summer discount. I really wanted to try the new Candy Cane!

What are your boxes? I’ve never stayed at candy cane but I have opinions on places along harbor I can suggest.
My guys love the free breakfast delivered to the room with the premium rooms and I love the shuttle at the end of the day. We also just really love the nostalgia aspect. The cleanliness factor and walkability are paramount though. An easy walk in the morning and a spotless room is what I'm looking for.

I might look into a DVC rental if I can find something decent.

I'm going to check out the Element right now. It has been so long since we've visited, I'm not familiar with it.

The Element and Home2Suites both look like good alternatives to me. No shuttle, no free parking, but they look like good choices to me.

I’ve never stayed at Hotel Wyndham before, but if the rate was right, I might try it. It gets really good reviews, and I think it’s one of the few properties that has free parking. Hotel Indigo next door also has free parking. I’ve stayed once, but it didn’t wow me.

One of the best things about Candy Cane is the customer service, and that’s going to be hard to replace anywhere!

Like you, I’m a diehard CCI fan. I’m staying at Desert Inn in July because it’s a solo trip for me and frankly, I would probably do it if Candy Cane was open just because it’s a little sketchy walking alone down there late at night.

hopefully, they’ll be open for my Christmas trip and it’ll be all new and shiny (lol). I love the convenience of the little store next door, close proximity to two drug stores and Subway. Plus I have a secret little room that I love ❤️

Their staff is great, so friendly.

PS- once my hubby and I stayed at the Carousel through a Costco package (several years ago, was really cheap deal) and it was quite nice but when I went to go back, IT WAS GONE! Lol. Still an empty lot I think…

We just stayed at the Hotel Wyndham during spring break. It was okay. The free parking is awesome, and it’s really not a bad walk to/from the parks (even at 1am!). But the customer service is subpar, no cleaning of the rooms, you have to request items like shampoo and they come in TINY bottles, so I felt like I was always requesting something. Just made me feel bad for the employees running stuff to us (plus extra cost of tipping them). Rooms aren’t very clean (layers of dust and I found an old water bottle in the closet), no free breakfast and pool is tiny. Can’t wait until CCI opens!

Thanks for the review! Glad to hear a first hand experience. Sorry, your stay wasn’t better too. Good to know the details tho!!

We ended up booking the Home2 Suites with points. That's the only bright side of not staying at the Candy Cane. At least we get to stay for free. There are so few reviews out there for the Home2. I hope we made the right decision.

We stayed there last September and thought it was great. It will obviously be less new and fresh by this August, but it's still a nice, interior corridor hotel with wide assortment of items for the free breakfast. The rooms were large and having a couch and table was great. The kitchenette was nice to have as well, if for no other reason than to have a second sink. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again if the price were right (we booked long before they opened and got an incredible rate of $164 on a two-bedroom suite but the construction was still in progress on those by the time we stayed, so they gave us two connecting rooms instead for $134/night total for both, best hotel deal I've ever gotten).

Thanks for the review. Very reassuring. I've been reading that the walk is not unbearable, maybe equidistant to the Candy Cane. I will miss the shuttle at the end of the night though. It was a lifesaver for me.

We didn't find the walk bad at all -- we also stayed in the same location back when the Quality Inn and Suites was there. I'd say it's a little longer than to Candy Cane, but not by much. It's really about the same distance as Hojo as well, since you don't have to cross the street, especially compared to Building 2 at the back of Hojo.

But if you want to give your feet a rest, I highly recommend exiting out of California Adventure through the Grand Californian and picking up a Lyft/Uber from the entrance there. We did that a couple of times for our last stay at Hojo and it was only about $10, well worth it at the end of the night.
