If the item is in perfect condition mark it 1/3 of what it originally cost. If it is not perfect it needs to be much lower. Adult clothes need to be priced cheaply. For instance a man's shirt only $1.00. Always round up just a bit, always! For instance, I would take 50 cents for a man's shirt so I price it at $1.00. People love to think they got you to go down on price. Prices on EVERYTHING. People will pass up on items if they have to bring it over and say, "How much for the lamp?"
Have a 25 cent table. That way you don't have to put little tags on little items.
Have a free box for dented, stained items. Make a sign, "FREE with $5.00 purchase." People love this.
Hang up as many clothes as possible. People need to see how big an item is. They have to unfold it. You can duct tape a mop between two ladders for an instant clothes hanger. I promise your clothes will sell for more money and more quickly if you hang them up.
Get the stuff up off the floor. You need tables. People do not want to bend over.
Shoes do not sell, unless they are perfect looking children's shoes.
Any type of glassware, silverware, plates, and knick knacks sell! Men are always looking for tools in GOOD condition.
If your sale starts at 9:00 be READY at 9:00. People will be at your door. Do not think you can walk around still pricing things. People will be ready to buy.
Wear your money in a fanny pack. People steal. Sad but true.
Be generous. One family thought and thought before they bought my Cozy Coupe. As they walked to their car with their purchase I handed them the toy gas pump that went with it. They were shocked. I made their day and in return I got the delighted smile of their daughter.
Use zip locks to bag up little pieces that all go together.
Scrapbook items sell. Yarn, leftover fabric, most craft books do not.
Paper backs sell. Price them for 50 cents or less.
Have a money back promise for any type of electronic gadget. Tell them, "If you bring it home and it doesn't work, come back TODAY, I'll give you your money back." Then write down the price and the item. You can have them sign it. People will often then buy the item. I have never, ever had someone come back.
If someone wants to go really low on a big item get their name and number. If the item is still there on the last day give them a call.
Hope this helps!
