Ever PCSed 2 months before school lets out?

We are talking about next year and as we know things can always change at the whim of the Army but DH is going back to Grad School again and classes start around the 1st of May. School here is not out until mid-June or later depending on snow days. We own a house here and would need to sell it before we moved.

We are really considering moving the entire family when DH does instead of waiting until the end of the year. It would be quite expensive to pay for 2 houses simultaneously for at least 2 months (May/June) before the move and we would rather avoid that. The closest post and BOQ is 70 miles away from the school so the option for DH to stay there until the summer is out as well.

Has anyone moved that close to the end of the school year? Would you do it again? Did you put your kids in school in the new district or just homeschool them until the end of the year? My oldest 2 would be in 10th and 5th grades at the time. The kids do have good friends here but are also eager to get to our new destination (Orlando!) so they wouldn't be too opposed to moving early.

Thanks in advance for any insight or opinions.

We have only moved once during the school year and it was this most recent move. We PCS'd from Hawaii to Fort Belvoir, VA in December during Christmas break. We actually did a curtailment to leave in Dec '08 because we were originally supposed to PCS in March '09.

The kids have adapted pretty well, but it is hard b/c the schools here are doing different things than they were in Hawaii, so they've missed some stuff. My 8th grader has made friends pretty easily, but the 8 year old is having a hard time. He is usually the social one and makes friends VERY easily, but the kids in his class seem to have their cliques already and he has had a hard time b/c of that.
