I just got scheduled for one on the 28th of may. I was going to have a hyster, but with the whole blood pressure issue i'm going through, I've decided to start small and hopefully not have to move up to a hyster. I've decided to be asleep during the procedure. i don't want to know what's going on. Anyone having gone through this want to share their experiences?

I had it done in Aug 2009 in my OB's office with twilight sleep,(i.e. I don't remember anything about the procedure). Very little pain or cramping afterwards. No bleeding since and I was having very heavy periods and had a polyp removed. Getting the bill paid by the insurance company was way worse that having the procedure done and the aftermath.
Recovery would be much easier than a hysterectomy. Outcomes vary but mine was great.

I had mine in January 2009. Best thing I ever did!!! Haven't had a period since and the recovery was a breeze.

I had mine done April 2009, and it was the best decision I ever made. I was asleep for the procedure, and some cramping the 1st night but was fine by the next day. The cramping wasn't anything worse than what I had for normal monthly cramps.

I used to have very very heavy periods, mine have gotten progressively lighter. It is now at the point where it last 1-2 days and all I need is a liner.

The best thing ever.. I don't remember much pain afterwards and have not had a period since. YEAH I would highly recommend it so much easier then a hyster..... Good Luck

I had it in 2005, best decision I ever made. After several years of heavy menses, chronic pain and anemia I finally hit my wall. I had mine done as outpatient surgery--like you, I didn't want to know anything. Recovery wasn't bad. I had a lot of cramping the day of, like early labor. Anaprox took care of that and I mostly slept that day. The next day I got up, loaded up the camping gear and the kids and we hit the road for a 4 day tent camping trip. :goodvibes I took some Advil for cramps, but it really wasn't bad and we had a great time. I haven't bought "supplies" in about 4 years.

I had ablation in Oct. 2007--just wish I had done it earlier.
Some cramping day of surgery, but not bad. I've continued to have very light and short periods, but now I don't plan my life around my TOM.

It has sooo improved my quality of life.

EVerything she said. Mine was March or May (I can't remember) of 2007.

Best - I mean the BEST thing I have ever done, truly. And I put it off for months and months.

Good luck. You'll love it.

I too have anemia from heavy periods and my doctor suggested having an endometrial ablation using uterine balloon therapy. They do this right in the office. I've been giving it some serious thought!

Has anyone had the uterine balloon ablation?

Of course, I went and googled this and there were a mix of experiences, some frightening.

I just had mine done in April. I had very mild cramping the day of the surgery. The next night i went out to watch a sporting event. I did have a few days of shoulder pain due to gas being trapped. It was controlled very easily with regular pain meds.

So far, i am thrilled with the results. I've only gone through 2 cycles since the surgery. My first cycle I has extremely mild spotting. This last cycle, I had NOTHING! Compared to the extremely heavy cycles that I had (I would be sick for 2 days a month and anemic. I felt horrible. I would get cold sores, etc.), this is a dream.

I am having a D&C in June and my doctor wants to also do an endometrial ablation. I am so torn about the ablation. I heard mixed reviews about ablation and uterine cancer is my concern. If you get an ablation it is hard to detect uterine cancer. I just don't know what to do.

This was one of the questions I asked my doc about before I had mine, and he said the cancer cells will show themselves and in much the same way as if I didn't have the ablation. Uterine cancer cells will bleed; so if your bleeding starts again (if you had stopped) or gets heavier (if you continue to bleed during your period) it needs to be checked out. He also did a D&C before the ablation, so pathology could take a really good look at the lining.

OP, I had a Novasure ablation just about 2 months ago. I don't think I'll be one of the lucky ones who experience bloodless periods, but I haven't been popping the Motrin like it was candy during my last 2 cycles. In fact, I haven't had to take any pain medication. It is much lighter and easier. I feel like I have my life back and so wish I had done it years ago. I had almost no cramping after the procedure and took nothing after leaving the hospital.

I had mine on December 29th (5 months ago). I must say that I didn't do as well as most girls after my procedure. Not sure why. I was on my period when I went in for the procedure. I cramped & bled a lot for 2 weeks after my procedure & then the bledding stopped, but I started having this weird discharge that lasted up until week 6. Nothing too bad, just had to wear a panty liner.

My first period after procedure was normal. Each period since then has gotten better. My period last month only lasted ONE DAY!! This is coming from someone that has bled 7-10 days for 10 years now!! Can't wait to see what this month holds! :thumbsup2

I just wanted to let you know that my experience didn't start off so well...but now 5 months later, I'm so HAPPY that I had it done!! So...give it 3-6 months after procedure to really see how you're gonna do. Good Luck!!!

I had no choice on mine, due to cancer issues. Long story short, it is something that plagues me every day!! I hate it! I need to have a complete hysto, but just cannot do it right now....I am in pain every single day! so it does not work for everyone! oh, and that was two years ago.

I had one done 13 years ago and I am sure its changed since then!

My periods did come back several years later, but they were nowhere as heavy or hard. More like what I think is considered a normal period. I did have to go back to work the next day and I was sorry I did. My doctor assured me it wouldn't be a problem, but I do wish I had taken the day off to recover more. I had a pretty physical job back then and I do remember it took me a few more days to feel better and I think if I would have taken the next day off I would have been better off.

I had the baloon done in November 2005. He decided to do it as he was going in for a polyp to be removed and decided to do it. I have very light periods now but he stated it was also do to the peri-menopause when I saw him a couple of weeks ago. I was hoping at that time it would go away all together but it didn't. I was sick from the drugs they gave me to knock me out but really no pain.

It was the best procedure for me. I have been really happy with results. Not having to worry about any of it anymore has been such a change. Good luck. E

I havent read all the responses because I"m not too familiar with it...but my sister did have one a couple yrs back (age 25)... unfortunately, within the yr, she had to have a hysterectomy.
She's had soo many issues, but I do hear it is a great procedure for the most part....
Good Luck

I had never heard of this procedure until about a month ago when I started having problems myself. Peri has caused my cycle to be way off. Some months it's very light or not at all and other times it's lasting 3 weeks.

We're heading to Hawaii in 2 months and the doctor assured me that if I get this done, I should be good to go. I just can't imagine spending 10 hours on a plane or the week's vacation like this.

I'm still very nervous! If things stop, I go Tue for another ultrasound to see if things have improved enough to have the procedure.

My sister had it done a few years ago. Now she just has one normal cycle instead of 2 heavy ones each month.

:scared1:
