Hey couple of questions, how many miles/time from Pensacola to Universal, and do you stay on the interstate totally or cut thru on Hwy 27 to the interstate around Ocala. Oh yeah, anybody from Texas drive ffrom Houston to Pensacola, how far, how long??Thanks..

Well, I'm going from Panama City and I pull a popup behind me (Pensacola is about 1 1/2 hours west of PC). I don't go I-10...I go Hwy 27 and cut over to Ocala.
It takes us about 6 1/2 hours and it's about 330 miles.

I just wanted to say that you Florida people are so lucky! I love the panhandle almost as much as the Orlando area, and someday hope to move there!

Made the drive plenty of times while I contracted at Disney. From Navarre, FL (near Pensacola), I took I-10 to I-75, I-75 to the turnpike, turnpike to I-4. About 460 miles, took 6 1/2 hours. Since Universal is right at I-4/Turnpike the Hwy 27 route would be longer. FYI, the I-10 leg seems sooo lonnnng !!!

Thanks for the info. Sharon I looked at you pics, you have a great family!!

Why thank you very much Radar! :)

Hey Radar -

Our family drove from Houston to Orlando 2 years ago and let me tell you that is a LOOOOONNNNNGGGGG drive. We were about an hour into Louisiana when my DH said "This is the last time we drive. Next time we're flying...." Of course it was him that insisted on driving in the first place!!

We left Houston about 4pm on Friday. We got to Mobile, AL about 11pm that night and spent the night there. Got up the next morning and left Mobile about 8:30am. It was about 6pm by the time we got checked into the resort. I don't know how the highways will be now, but we ran into alot of construction around New Orleans and a LOT of construction on I-10 in the FL panhandle. You may be able to make the trip quicker if the construction has cleared. But really, I'd recommend flying if you can.

If you do decide to drive, drive safely and have a wonderful trip.

We have a 22-24 hour drive ahead of us. 13 or so one day...then a rest...and 10-12 the next day. We're driving down from CT. the savings for me is a lot...so it's worth it...

My two older boys are looking forward to the drive down. We have one of those TV/VCR's that plug into the cigarette lighter...and that helps. It's the drive back that is really horrible. Plus...it takes up 4 days of our vacation time to drive...so if I win Lotto or something...or find some really great airfare's I won't hesitate to fly!!

Cindy,

I feel your pain. It is the drive home that's the worst. Why don't you try to get some of your pictures developed before you start home, that way you can relive some of the vacation, instead of just being sorry that it is over.

I hope you have a great trip. Drive safely!

Hey Donna,
Great idea!!

Thanx for the tip!

Now...if you can just find me a cheap flight..I'll be just fine looking on those pics for the flight home!!

In fact, we are considering driving one way..and flying home...but sometimes a one way is almost as much as a round trip.

Also, my sister will be working for Delta Airlines by then...and in the past when she has worked for other airlines we have gotten buddy passes. 4 years ago I flew for 50.00 round trip! Isn't that a good price?...but now she hasn't worked at an airline for awhile...and I'm certain that I'm not first in line for the buddy passes..especially 5. Oh well....

Maybe we'll stop in Washington D.C. on the way down to see how George is getting along anyway!

;)

Take care,

Thanks for the info.,actually we begin in austin, and yes last year we flew, but this year only have three tickets, will sell and pay for car trip.I fly for work and frankly don't miss the airport hassle one bit. It probably is a long drive but hey we did another trip to LV around christmas with 6 of us in minivan so how hard can it be. We want to stop at Pensacola and visit relatives and pick up cousin to go with us. The trip at christmas cost me my other two plane tickets but we had a blast....

Cindy, have you signed up for the internet special fares from Southwest Airlines? I don't know if they fly from CT, but we got a heck of a deal. We are flying from Nashville to Tampa for $118.00 round trip. With the price of gas like it is, I grabbed these fares when I saw them! Just go to Southwest Airlines home page and register. They will send you a weekly e-mail with specials. Also, I signed up with the rewards program with them, and after we take our trip in June, I will be eligible for a round trip flight anywhere Southwest flies. Now I have to decide, where I want to go!
