MY scalp feels like someone has built a fire on my head. Is that normal or not?

Normal not really, but some people do have this problem. I had 1 out of hundred clients. Are you going to a salon or doing it yourself? You should do one of those patch test on you arm. And try not to wash your hair at least the day of maybe even a couple days before. Make sure it is not plastered to your head the air needs to get to it, make it spikey. If you are covering alot of greys go with a semi permanent color of think about hi-lights then the color would not touch your scalp.

It used to, but doesn't any longer. Dunno why.

Definitely not normal. You're probably allergic to one of the chemicals in the dye. Next time do a patch test first. Not sure what to suggest to stop the burning, sorry.

I have had that problem, too. It is horrible. My salon has alternative colors that they use when you actually speak up about it (which I didn't do the first couple times because I thought I was just a crybaby).

kae-I go to a salon and I stood out side in the breeze today which help but after it is washed out it not red and feel fine. also I washed it this morning forgot I had the appointment.

she foils it but we were covering some gray at my roots.

Mine used to do that, but the women who does my hair now puts one package of sweet and low in the color when she is mixing it and it doesn't any more :confused3

Every single time. Every kind I've used. Always.

No after effects....but it sure *tingles* (SLIGHT understatement) when i first put it on! LOL!

If you are going to a salon to have this done, and mention it to them they should immediatly rinse and check for allergies. You may have some inflamation that could be like a sunburn, and or even get to the point of blisters, chemical burn. Perms would be the same way.

If you are doing it at home, look for a product without amonia and as above do a patch test, but I would do it on the scalp under the hair area.

ANother thing too, are they washing your hair prior to application? A good scrubbing, even rinse with hot wated could make the scap irratated enough to burn to the application.

But good salons providing top line chemicals should not be a real problems, but you could be sensitive.

Another thought, if you are being lifted highly with blonde color, and it is a salon, the peroxide level is perhaps not the normal 20% but could be 30 or 40%.

DO they by any chance put you under a dryer?

No I stoud outside today in the wind and it helped but when she foils it she put me under the dryer this was a brown color she put on to hide gray.
She also washed the hairspray out before coloring it but used cool water.

Are you allergic to sulfites by chance? Many hair colors have preservatives in them. I can no longer use over the counter hair colors and always get my hair done professionaly with a weave which does not burn as the color is never pulled right to the scalp.

Not me! My hair color change is from brown to grey and is all natural!!!

funny you should ask I am allergic to sulfa but I eat food with sulfites inthem and the most I get is a headache mostly with wine. but not all wine.

my scalps burns a bit when I get my hair colored. My stylist sprays some ph balance stuff my scalp and then it stops.

I'm going to look into the sweet n low thing.

Mine used to do that when I colored it myself. Now that I get it professionally done I don't have that problem.

I go to a salon and had the same thing happening. Tried several different brands of hair color and they all caused burning and redness. Then we tried the packet of sweet and low and it was great.

lol, I know, this is a great trick! I do this to my clients that do on the scalp bleach (the ones that want platinum) and it really works!

once in a while part of my scalp will burn but it's nothing i can't handle. if it's REALLY bothering you you might be having a reaction and should wash it out ASAP!

My biggest problem is my hair feels so dang greasy from all the chemicals & dye and not washing my hair for a day beforehand so all I want to do is shampoo all the crap out my hair! Of course, I don't do that, but I really enjoy the lather the next day!
