My Costco membership just ran out and I was considering going back to Sams instead. They are pretty much the same in my book, except Sams does photo cakes and Costco does filled cakes (which are pretty ugly, actually!). I need cheap contacts, so that may be the deciding factor in which club we join. Does anyone know if they sell contacts as cheap as Costco? TIA!

Those filled cakes are ugly, but they are good!

Someone posted awhile back that warehouses must allow you access to the pharmacy even if you aren't a member. I wonder if that applies to contacts?

I get contacts there but you have to be a member, mine are $50 a box from my eye dr and $36 a box from sams!

sams now offers 2 different types of filling, bavarian cream and strawberry not ugly at all :goodvibes .The strawberry tastes pretty good to.Sorry, i do not wear contacts.

Call and make sure they carry your prescription before you join for the contacts. BJs used to carry my son's, but the doc changed the prescription and they don't have that one. I found the best price (less than half of the doctor's) at a local optician, so it really pays to call around, too.

DW just filled her prescription. She called Sams and asked what the price was, then called Costco and asked the same. Costco was cheaper. She called Sams and asked if they would match Costco's price, and they did. We ended up purchasing from Sams because it was closer to our house. Never hurts to ask.

Sam's Club has better store hours than Costco. You may want to check the hours for the clubs in your area.

I had a membership to both and ended up canceling the Costco card because they didn't carry a lot of the things that we use. The alcohol selection at Costco was very limited and mostly imports and DH was upset that they didn't sell Budweiser. :rotfl: The also only sold Huggies diapers and I buy the Members Mark brand at Sam's for about $10.00 less. There were a lot of other things but it's been awhile since I've been to Costco so I'm sure things have changed.

As for the contacts, you do not need to be a Sam's Club member to use their optical department or their pharmacy. My two oldest girls go there for their exams and contact/glasses but I have to take my youngest to a Ped Neuro-Ophthalmologist for medical reasons. Sam's can not get the brand or strength of contacts that she needs.

I'd check out both clubs in the area and decide which one you will use most often based on store hours, location and the products that they sell before joining.
