Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

How cold do the beverage coolers actually get? We will be there in 3 weeks for my daughter's nationals as well as park time. On her competition days, I usually pack us a lunch to bring with because there is never time to go get anything. Does it get cool enough to keep lunch meat and cheese at a safe temp? And milk? On our last trip we stayed at the Beach Club and Grand Floridian and had regular mini fridges.
We bring a fridge thermometer with us. If it's 5 degrees or less we put milk etc in the fridge. Not all fridges seem to be the same and the temp varies. You can also grab some ice from the machine in the hall in the wine bucket thingy and pop that in the fridge to keep it cold. Lastly you could always buy a cheap Styrofoam cooler and bring it with you or have instacart deliver.

Rather than closest in distance, I'd suggest looking for shortest time. Traffic can be really bad.

Just back from another great stay at POFQ. We had a river-view room in Building 6, a corner room as requested. It seemed that there were a lot of empty river-view rooms. When we would come back to the resort at night after park close, quite a few had the curtains open and the rooms were empty of personal belongings. We arrived early, about 10:30 AM, and even though I had not received a text alert yet, the CM at the guard gate told us our room was ready and gave us the room number, so we were able to go directly to our room which was fantastic. We had already unpacked and put everything away when we realized that there was water coming up through the vinyl plank flooring near the a/c unit. We were in a time crunch to go to Disney Springs for lunch and get our Florida Resident tickets activated before my husband went to a fishing excursion, so I didn't address the water right away. As soon as my son and I got back to the resort after eating and shopping at DS, I went to the front desk to alert them of the issue. The CM called maintenance right away and someone was walking up to our room as soon as we were. She came in and assessed the issue, and came back with a wet-dry vac to clean out the drain, and also requested delivery of a drying fan. Another maintenance CM brought that shortly after she left. When we went to dinner later, we plugged the fan in when we left and unplugged it when we returned (it was pretty loud). I will say that it didn't seem to solve the problem long-term and we noticed water seeping up from the floor almost every day. When I first reported the issue, the front desk CM gave us the option of moving to a new room, but since we had already moved in and put clothes in drawers and such, I declined the offer. The seeping water was not really an issue since it was near the door. I did alert the housekeeper as we were leaving this morning so that she could have it worked on again.

Other than that slight issue, our stay was great. Being on the end of the building, it was super quiet - we never heard any noise at all. It was a little further to the bus stop and main building than other rooms we've had there, but since the resort is small, it was still just a 5-7 minute walk. We had pretty good luck with buses. We went to early admission hours every morning and didn't have trouble getting on a bus. Several times we came out to the bus stop at the parks to find one of our buses either waiting or pulling up to the gate, both at park close and when we went back to the resort for a mid-day break. The only down side of the buses at POFQ is that the stops at MK and HS are the ones at the end of the row so it's a long walk after a long day.

We loved the new renovation of the rooms. The walk-in shower was a nice upgrade. There's a lot of storage in the bathroom area now with cubbies and shelves. The shelves above the coffee maker were very handy for storing the breakfast and snack items we had brought along. The beverage cooler was fine - it chilled our water and juice easily. The long countertop is also useful. Several outlets there and USB ports. There was a nice little shelf between the bed and the back corner of the room which was perfect for my phone and some water.

POFQ remains high on our list of favorite resorts. Can't wait to go back!

Hi
If the new bathrooms are walk in showers does that mean there is no longer a clothes line for drying clothes the way there was over the bath

2026 room locations - is it pretty safe to say that the only buildings that will be standard location will be bldg 1 and 7? Or do you think 6 migh be also? Need 3 rooms with tubs so basically would only be ground floor rooms (from what I have read) so trying to decide if I am limiting my “travel with” request for the rooms being close together.

Standard Location will be 1, 6 and 7. Preferred Location will be 2, 3, 4 and 5. And yes, the rooms with tubs are basically ground floor only.

Thanks for this, Andre. I just read the above link and started wondering if the view would be something you could request at online check-in. Because I'd be pretty darn unhappy, to say the least, with a parking-lot view.

You can request your preferred view when you make your reservation if you call the Disney Reservation Center. It would be just a request and will not be guaranteed. You would have a better chance of having your request honored if you have it noted on your reservation.

Thanks. My experience with calling, waiting on hold for a zillion minutes, then leaving my request, has not been wildly successful. I'm hoping that someone who has done online check-in will be able to report back if the view is something that can be requested.

I understand that WDW changed the booking categories but leaving out the view even at a Mod seems nonsensical.

It is intended for the Online Checkin request tickboxes to be expanded and made more relevant to the things people actually ask for, but as far as I know that has not been implemented as yet.

When they finally implement that, it will help new the Automated Room Assignment process to be more accurate without so much human intervention. Currently, room inventory cast members are having to trawl through free-form text fields to try to modify requests into terms that the ARA system can understand.

You don't need to phone DRC by the way, you can also use the Chat system in the My Disney Experience app.
