It is standard practice not to provide any details at all so you were much further ahead than has been my experience.
Not that you would have done this but, if they provided room number prior to the room being ready, some guests would go to the room and either start to move items in or, pressure the CM to hurry. Neither work to efficiently get the room ready.
It is standard practice at Pop not to provide any details until your room is ready to be occupied.
When I arrive, if my room is not ready, I go to the front desk and ask if there is possibly a room ready that I could move to? If there is, depending on the location (we normally stay 8-10 nights so for us, room location is our only priority) if we like the location I ask if we can please be assigned there? If we don’t care for the location, I wait to see what our yet to be divulged room is and hope it’s in a better location.
