Disneyland Halloween Half Marathon Weekend 2024

This is the slowest the VQ has moved for merch in forever… its been stuck at 34 for like 20 minutes now. Its way more organized over in Florida.

They pretty much let in a huge wave of people right off the bat.

I was in group 9, and got called unexpectedly at 9:50, and when I walked over they were letting groups 1 through 17 in. Probably needed to clear the backlog which is why the later groups are moving slower.

Pandora charms and spirit jerseys only items on eBay so far.
Guessing they haven’t uploaded the jackets then because they are out of everything for the challenge jacket smaller than a Large

Also heads up the tanks have built in slits for some bizarre reason? Completely defeats the purpose of buying them.

I’m guessing it’s supposed to help with air but the slits run so far up it’s basically useless for female anatomy

No character pictures in the expo which was kind of a bummer, is that how it usually is at Disneyland? I’m used to WDW where they have a character for each race and you can take a picture with your bib after you get it.

It’s hard to call anything “usual” for DL yet, since they’ve only just restarted races this year

Anything important in the email to know? For some reason RD emails no longer come to me. It started a couple months ago. (Not even in junk box) Super frustrating.
Just screenshotted it

Yeah but historically they’ve never had them at expo. There’s just not enough room.

None in January either. It’s just not a big enough area unlike ESPN with multiple buildings. My first DL races were this past January and it was very different than the FL races. A lot of things were a hot mess, but I still had so much fun that I came back for more 😊

For anyone staying at a Disney hotel, I was just told by the info booth at the expo that they added a shuttle for us. It drops off at the bus depot across the street from the 10k/half starting point. Lol, that makes me Saturday morning easier.

Completely different experience today versus the 5K in January. They had more people working security, clear signage for bag check and tv screens and speakers in the back corrals. There was a singing and fireworks before the national anthem was a played on a piano.

There were actual photopass on the course and at all but one character. At the finish line they handed out bags of candy along with the snack box.

This was probably my favorite 5K I have ever run.

Characters I saw:
- Halloween Minnie & Mickey
- Halloween Daisy & Donald (Pluto was switching out too)
- Chip & Dale. No photopass, but they were up on a stage and they had 6 photo op areas going at a time. They went up and down the line posing behind you.
- Lightning McQueen and vampire Mater
- Nick and Judy
- Luca and ???? Sorry. Never seen the movie.

On the rD race page again!

Things to note from a wheels perspective and in general:
- We had individual bike guides for us which was amazing. While I was up in the lead pack because I was clicking a 7-8 min mile so I never dealt with crowds. It helped a lot to know I had someone looking out for me. Makes me a bit more relaxed for the nastier parts of the half.
- felt like lighting might have been better?
- Wasn’t down below but they did have Avengers characters out on the hanger this morning.
- Actually in general character locations and lines were much improved from January it felt like. A lot easier to navigate to in the cycle where as in Jan I had to skip a couple due to the difficulty of turning. Only one I saw and bypassed were Luca (I heard about Daisy and the others stop after but didn’t see them) because they weren’t doing photos at that point. Where as in Jan I had to skip Cars because of the turn angle.
Only one I actively struggled with was Chip and Dale. But I got out of there eventually.
- Moving the first character to after we had been on course for a bit was appreciated
- Also I don’t know who I have to thank for letting us take the easier side of the Toontown hill. But they are now my favorite person. Though I did get momentarily surprised/confused when we turned us forgetting we weren’t doing the hill that way.
-not a wheels complaint but uh having two security lines for all of Harbor was definitely a choice. They still need to work on the security. I ended up having to walk up because I was afraid I would miss roll out.

I did record the race I’ll be posting to YouTube and will share later.

Huh curious what direction you came from because when I got to Harbor security it was backed up all the way to the Uber/Lyft drop off because they had two people.

Also the other one was Alberto.

I saw you go by. When we got to the front they had at least 6 open.

The last 15 minutes of entertainment this morning was fabulous. I've never seen choreographed dancers and singers before in a pre-race--and the fire works were amazing. I feel like they heard the complaints and really upped the game. The lines for characters were crazy--Minnie and Mickey must have been an hour when we went by. It was practically under the tunnel of toontown. Very fun race. No security issues here and was able to go back to the Grand Californian through the Grizzly peak entrance. Looking forward to Sunday.
