Disneyland Accessible Airport transportation

I have visited Disneyland twice with my power wheelchair and both times used SuperShuttle to get from and to the airport. However, they have gone out of business. None of the other shuttle companies say anything about having accessible vehicles available. Does any one know of an LAX or Orange County (John Wayne Airport) shuttle company that would be able to take 5 adults including one power wheelchair?

We are holding reservations at Disney's Paradise Pier and a backup reservation at an Embassy Suites farther down Harbor Blvd. If we go with the later, it is my understanding the ART is accessible.

I'm currently having the same problem too and I really want to go back to DL one more time before my AP expires in a few months. I've even looked into Amtrak and they do not have any accessible seats remaining for the dates I can travel. I can't drive so renting is not an option.

I called DL a few weeks ago and was told that if you are staying on property they have an accessible shuttle to and from LAX. The CM did not know anything about it besides that it supposedly exists. I do know that as of last summer when I talked with a DVC rep at the GC, DVC will pick you up at your hotel and bring you to their presentation center but their transportation is not wheelchair accessible and you are on your own to get there. I wonder if the new hotel accessible shuttle option is something outsourced.

The DL CM said they are working on a recommendation for guests staying off-site. It has been 2 months since both shuttle companies announced they were shutting down though. My SuperShuttle driver who had worked for the company for years did tell me after it was announced that the company was closing that some of the employees were wanting to buy the vehicles and make a go of it.

PrimeTime claims to have something wheelchair accessible in their fleet but I still need to do more research. Looking at their website makes me think it will be way out of my price range.

I've found another bus shuttle that goes to downtown LA and then transfer to the train and then to a bus or two more. Everything is accessible but that route takes hours, has a bunch of transfers, and would require traveling very light. Not ideal at all.

The ART bus is accessible but not all the stops are. The stops at DL in the official loading/unloading area are accessible. If you are planning on using the ART bus, check the schedule for your route as some only are once an hour. I think busses have two tie-downs but you will want to consider the risk of not getting a spot on the bus if the loop interval time is long. The sidewalks on the main roads around DL are new and very nice. I always felt safe at night since many employees of the surrounding businesses don't get off work until 1-3 AM and so there are always lots of people around besides the homeless and anyone out to do harm. The person in your group using a wheelchair qualifies for a discounted fare and the website says you need to have supporting documents to get that discount.

Please let me know if you find out any additional info!

Thanks for sharing what you know. I will probably call some companies and ask questions and hopefully get some prices. I will post what ever I find out. We are not going until November but traveling with a power chair makes good, advanced planning a necessity.

Our daughter (who is not currently using a mobility device) just flew in over the weekend to LAX for a solo trip to DL. She stayed at the Marriott on Hotel Way, south of the Park.

She said that the concierge at the Marriott told her they no longer recommend the ART buses to their Guests because too many of the stops have been overrun by homeless that are panhandling. She used an Uber to/from and it was typically about $5 to $6 per ride between the hotel and the drop-off.

She tried to find out about accessibility between LAX and DL both at DL and LAX, but no one has apparently stepped in to fill that void yet. That's my big sticking point too, so she was curious to see what she could learn.

She wasn't able to find out if flying in to John Wayne Orange County improved accessibility or not, as the CM she spoke to at DL had no information about that at all, and her flights were all through LAX.

I’m flying in and out of John Wayne in two weeks. And while I’ll have a rental I’ll see if I dont spot anything that might work while I’m headed to National. No guarantees though.

Technically under ADA any reasonable sized shuttle service would have to provide mobility accommodations, though if that would fit 5 could be in questions
LA city cab and prime time shuttle both list accessible vans for 86 to $100 from LAX

Uber and Lyft have options for accessible vehicles in the area, but I don't know how long they take to arrive or any details.

Also, I strongly recommend flying in and out of Long Beach or John Wayne, there are accessible Taxis at both if all else fails and a taxi ride will be substantially cheaper from there, not to mention they are far better airports. LAX should be avoided whenever possible.

As for a replacement for ART, OCTA (the public transit system in the area) is fully accessible at all stops, runs later (some routes are 24/7) and is cheaper than ART. Speaking of you can also take public transit from the airport to Disney, but that will take a bit of time and effort.
