Not sure where this topic should go.....

But since I'm likely to buy one and ship it home while I'm at the parks, I wanted to ask a question for those that have bought them. I have a few here and I don't keep any of them in direct or even indirct light, I keep them in my bedroom. But in each of them, the water has turned yellow. Has this happened to others or am I doing something wrong? I don't want to buy another if that's what inevitably happens.

Odd. I have a lot of snowglobes, Disney and non-Disney (what can I say, I enjoy kitsch). None have discolored, including some that I've had for a very long time.

Is there some condition in your home that may be causing this, since it's happened to all of them? Temperature extremes? Something else?

Gosh. I don't know. I don't think so but something did so maybe. My son has a lot of cheapie tourist globes ;) and his all look OK. It's just my big, Disney ones. only have 2 of them becasue iv'e been afraid of it happening again. BUT with your repot, if I find seomthing I love thsi trip, I'll give it another go. :thumbsup2 THANKS!

A side Q if I may? :) My one that has a motor in it to make a waterfall within the water in the globe stopped working. I didn't use it much but it was my Bambi one with "April Showers" so I did listen a few dozen times. :lovestruc Is it normal for the motor to stop working pretty easily?

I had a thing for snowglobes in my younger days. I'd say eventually that happens to probably 65% of snowglobes- a lot get particles in the water too instead of just turning yellow. It may take years for it to show up too. Maybe the water wasn't completely pure when they put it in? I've had pretty good luck with Disney snowglobes not doing that even though they are really old, but we have had some pretty expensive supposedly good quality snowglobes that have done that after several years. Thinking about it, I don't think I've ever seen it in a cheap plastic under $5 snowglobe? Odd.

Got curious and looked it up. Here is the explanation I found:

Why Does Snow Globe Water Turn Yellow?
•One reason snow globe water may turn yellow is because improper water was used when it was filled. Distilled water and glycerin should be used to fill the globe, and if tap or unfiltered water is used, the color of the water can change drastically. Placing your snow globe in direct sunlight for long periods of time can also create bubbles, or gaps, in between the water and the glass bowl--making it seem as though your globe was not filled with enough water. Over time, the sunlight can virtually evaporate the water from inside the globe, and encourage bacteria to grow in non-distilled water.

I have snowglobes that are old enough to drink and this hasn't happened to any of them, much less 65 percent of them.

I have several disney snow globes, my oldest one is over 12 years old and I have no issues with it.Still looks fine.

We have about 20 Disney snowglobes and they are all fine. We have had them for a while.
