Did you watch the Disney Channel when it was a premium channel? How much did you pay for the service?

I watched it, but my parents paid the bill. I have no idea how much it cost. I think we first got cable in '85 or '86.

Disney Channel Magizine might offer a clue. I need some magazines 🙂

No clue on the how much, mid 80s. Watched Kids Incorporated and Mickey Mouse Club. We had Disney and HBO together.

I remember when our neighborhood got cable growing up. We got Disney Channel (I'm sure at my insistence). I remember the MMC and Kids Incorporated very well. My favorite were the mini-movies that were part of MMC. Teen Angel was one I remember vividly. The mouseketeers were very talented and included Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Ryan Gosling and more. Not all of them went on to fame though. Must be odd to be part of such an elite group and then fizzle out.

TBH, besides MMC and some of the morning "preschool" programming, I don't remember much of the premium Disney channel - maybe Anne of Avonlea? I remember a lot of the Nickelodeon game shows though.

My parents got it right when it came out, around 83’ I believe. I was home with the chicken pox so it was a lifesaver for my mom.

As I recall in 1987 when cable finally because available here it was about $6 a month. Sacramento was the last major U.S. city to get wired for cable. About 10 years later it went from a commercial free premium channel to a basic channel with commercials. That was the point when the programming changed and my then 6 and 10 year old lost interest in Disney Channel and shifted to the shows on Nickelodeon.

I had it in the early '80's. It was as much as Disney+ is now. It was WAY better when you paid for it. The opened the vaults and showed family-oriented fare. Once it became free on cable the quality started to slip. I block disney channel now on cable now. The parents, if there are any, are portrayed as idiots while the kids run the show. My kids have Disney+ and I am on their account. I don't watch it too much, mostly the old school Disney movies and the few Wonderful World of Disney segments. I would gladly purchase my own if it had they started a Vault Disney Channel. I refuse to watch remakes of the classics.

I was a kid, so no clue how much my parents paid for it. Got it for the MMC because Lindsey was a friend of mine from local theater. Used to go to tapings all the time. I miss those days.
