Dishwasher help - suds

A few weeks ago I noticed my dishes felt a little weird (kinda gritty maybe) when they came out of the dishwasher. We cleaned out the filters and whatever else we could. Then we bought a rinsing agent (Which we never use) and I happened to open the dishwasher right after the load stopped and there were suds (not a ton but enough that you would want to rinse them before using). Anyway, I read that the suds would be from the rinsing agent and not the detergent. I even ran an empty load and yep there were suds even without detergent. Well by now I would almost think the rinsing agent should be gone but the suds are there every time. Water is definitely coming out as the dishes are clean and I hear the water swishing around. Any ideas other than it being the rinsing agent (maybe I just put too much in)? Can't see how I would get it out other than just keep running the dishwasher. Thx. (trying to hold off calling in a repair person)

fill the dishwasher solution tray with lemonade powder and run it empty. The acid in the lemonade will clean the residue out of the dishwasher.

Did you put the rinse agent in the dispenser that the dishwasher has? I've never heard of suds from a rinse agent.

I use a rinse agent all the time and never any suds

The only time I got suds was using liquid dish soap instead of dishwasher soap

Did someone put liquid dish SOAP into the dishwasher by accident? Or, did you put in some dishes that had been cleaned with dish soap and not fully rinsed?

The rinse aid doesn't cause suds...that's not the issue. Sounds like you have some soap trapped somewhere in there. Get a dishwasher cleaner tab and run the machine with the hottest water you can. You may also have a clogged drain line.

We had suds once and it was due to MIL accidentally using hand soap instead of dish detergent. Rinse agents do not contain soap and will not cause suds.

Yup, I once put laundry detergent instead of dishwasher detergent and got a ton of suds. I don't think a rinse agent should be giving you suds - certainly not anything that sticks around for days.

I was going to ask if you have ever used regular dish soap in there.

You can use white vinegar instead of buying a rinse agent.

Thanks for all the replies. I def. only used regular dishwasher liquid in the dishwasher. I've read online that some rinse aids do form suds. I was actually hoping that was the problem. Sounds like I may need to call in a professional. Thx all.

I'd try something like this..Lemi Shine multi use machine cleaner before calling anyone.

Yes, some rinse aids can leave suds. If I open our dishwasher seconds after the load finishes, there are suds on the bottom that haven't dissipated yet.

Vinegar will cut suds. I'd run a load or two with no soap and a bunch of vinegar.

Is it possible that someone in the house put dishwashing liquid in the dishwasher instead of dishwasher detergent at some point? That would cause TONS of suds.

The same exact thing happened to me. I wound up using a turkey baster to suck out any remaining rinse agent from the dispenser. I filled it with water a few times, and used the turkey baster again. Then I filled it w/ white vinegar and ran the dishwasher a few times with a cup of vinegar just tossed into the bottom (run empty) to remove any residue. Problem solved! I now only use vinegar as a rinse aid.

I will use the vinegar. Still having some suds. Not sure if a turkey baster will work to get the remaining out. It's really not alot of suds but enough that I'm still rinsing by hand as soon as the machine stops.
