I visited Chankanaab in Feb 2020 from a Carnival cruise. My scheduled excursion was cancelled due to rough water. And the ocean was choppy.
Looking at Playa Mia as the Beach Break location, I would pick that over Chankanaab.
Mainly for the sand beach.
I walked around the property at Chakanaab and found very little beach access that was just simply walking from the beach into the water. I did see one small area. The site appears to be an elevated rocky coast which requires walking down stony steps to access the ocean.
There were sea mammal shows.
I considered lunch to be less favorable than cruise buffets. I just drank free coke from the bar. And used the WiFi. Took photos of other guests at the COZ MEL sign (missing U in Cozumel; I still laugh at that). Walked around and enjoyed warm, breezy weather.
Neither of these is showing much reef from above, so snorkeling may be limited.
Playa Mia
This even has a pool (2), much bigger than on the ship. Maybe more people going through this site, as some snorkeling trips to El Cielo utilize the pier (like the catamaran in the photo, perhaps).
Chankanaab. That tan/brown edging between sand and ocean is elevated rocks.
